Enlighten Up movie

Has anyone seen the movie “Enlighten Up?” What did you think?

Thanks!

Quite enjoyed it, saw it at the Boston premiere. Thought Kates choice of subject was a bit indulgent. For those who haven’t seen it, I believe it is available for free on hulu.com

About half way through it struck me that I knew the filmmaker.
Kate was an assistant at my first “teacher training” down in Mexico.
This, of course was an aside.

As a documentary I found it interesting but I already owned an interest in the topic.
I think Kate had a particular outcome in mind for her subject and when that started to go in another direction the interplay felt contrived and forced.

I do not personally believe that method is a sound method to introduce someone to themselves, their spirit, the practice, or the possibilities of a living beyond mediocrity. But it was an interesting film to watch.

I liked it. I was excited about the bit with BKS Iyengar in it!! There was some weird stuff too though… like laughing yoga, and this yoga where they don’t do any Asnanas… that’s just another religion to me. I also like how they guy learning the yoga didn’t really feel that much better, or continue doing yoga after the movie. I thought that was good, cause although yoga is fantastic and I really enjoy it, there is no shortage of people in yoga who think it’s a cure all, so it was a nice little reality check. I also loved all the different approaches and philosophies in yoga. Yeah, really enjoyed that movie 7/10

I didn’t think it was very good. As Gordon mentioned - her expectations weren’t being met.

Iyengar, to me, came off as an ass.

Most of the people she interviewed - were in the dark.

The “Test subject” reminds me of Adam.

It’s available on Netflix instant streaming as well. I thought it was interesting to see someone go from zero yoga to full immersion.

I agree. She seemed almost angry with him during one of their discussions because he hadn’t ‘gotten it’ yet and/or wasn’t as far along in his journey as she thought he should be by that time.

All in all I thought it was worth watching.

I watched this documentary and found the variety of viewpoints on yoga practices fascinating. The film highlights how each instructor conveys their personal perspective, which brings depth to the narrative. Some viewers look up frndly tv for similar yoga-themed content. The storyline raises thoughtful questions about the true essence of yoga, beyond just poses. It’s an engaging watch for everyone curious about the different paths leading to self-discovery.
