First class last night

I attended my first yoga class last night from 5:30 - 7. I went in with no expectations. I must say, I did stretch some muscles that haven’t been stretched in a long time. This instructor has three levels of teaching. Beginners, Class 1 and Class 2. Class 1 is also for those that have had to previous yoga. I am going to take the beginners class next month. The Class 1 that I attended had a few elements that I was unfamilar with…like, words of poses, etc. There were about 10 people in the class and the instructor was very calm and made me feel quit at ease. I think I’ll go buy a book…something like maybe, “Yoga for Dummies” so I can become a bit more familar with what’s what. I also think I would like to practice poses everyday or at least do some sort of stretching exercises and not just attend the class once a week. I’m really looking for some calmness in my life and I think yoga may help me with that.

That’s cool Andy,
Yoga practices have helped me heaps. Been practicing for 12 years, and that inlcudes meditation (Vipassana) and satsangs (people such as Gangaji) and studying texts from advaita tradition and buddhism (can find good reads in web sites and youtube) and new books which don’t come from any tradition, such as’ The power of Now’, by Eckhart Tolle.
From my experiences I’ve seen that stretches alone don’t fully help to calm the mind, we have to investigate and see what are the causes of disturbance. Practice and knowledge together.

Wish you peace on your journey,
Soul

Hi Soul,

thank you for the reply.

My main goal right now is to try and bring some calmness in my life along with becoming a better person. I thinking that I can do my yoga in the morning and perhaps combine it with some meditation or at least with some quiet time? Thus entering the day with a clearer mind. It’s all so new to me that i’m not sure if it all makes sense. I’ve been looking at some Buddhis forms but i don’t know if i can do two things at once.

Good to go at your own pace…sounds like a good morning practice to start the day.I have found, on this journey , that the right teachings or guidance comes at the right time. It’s a beautiful journey , the journey to peace, who we are… Check this out , if you like ( there’s heaps of good talks on youtube)…I think it helps with practice…
