hello,
i am new to this community. i have a single gallstone. i am in my mid-thirties. which asanas should i definitely do and which ones shall i avoid?
thanks
I know of no asana that will be directly helpful, or directly unhelpful, to a general condition with gallstones, which is all that I can gather from the limited information that you have offered here.
I recommend that you seek treatment from the source that confirmed that you have a gallstone, or to seek out the recommendations of a Ayurvedic doctor who can take your pulses–he or she may have your take a course of herbs, or recommend certain Panacha Karmas or Shat Karmas for treatment. Asana will likely be a portion of a comprehensive treatment plan for by a Ayurvedic physician.
Wishing you all the best,
Nichole

thanks for your reply nichole. the doctor at the hospital that did the ultrasound, has recommended that i get the gall bladder removed, but there is no emergency yet. so while i have time, i wanted to explore alternative therapies.
i dont expect a complete cure just through hatha yoga. am consulting a homeopath and looking for a good ayurvedic doc too. however, i practice yoga regularly, and wanted to know if some asanas would aggravate the condition, or if any would help prevent stones from forming again. in particular, will inversions be detrimental? and what about forward bending asanas like paschimottanasana?

Hello Supriya,
You are welcome to the reply above, though I know it didn’t offer you much help around your request for asanas. Again, I don’t know of any asana that should be avoided or that would aide in prevention. I believe that you should be able to carry any asana practice that you prefer, as long as the practice is not limited by some other factor outside of the gallstone. Some people have pain or tenderness associated with the gallstone or the passing of the stone, so you would vary your asana practice to accommodate that. As you stated, this is not currently an emergency situation, so Paschimottanasana included in a practice should be fine, as would be central-axis rotations (the variety of twists), as long as there is no pain during practice or resulting. In addition to your physician’s recommendations, perhaps finishing your chosen asana practice with visualizing the stone getting smaller and dissolving…something along these lines to assist in its passing. Also, using and directing your pranayama practice to support the stones easy passing or dissolving.
I think you are wise to be exploring options now before you are in an acute situation. I also like to approach something from a variety of angles–it usually offers a higher rate of the desired outcome.
Kind regards,
Nichole
Namaste,
I had a small gallstone last year, on recommendation of my doctor I did an intensive liver flush (and yes I know there is much for and against it), which I got from a member on this Forum called Fin, who is extremely knowledgeable about the subject. If you go to my profile by clicking on my name he is one of my friends, PM him and ask him for the instructions and the liver flush. I repeated the lliver flush again after about six weeks and then went back to my doctor for a sonar. My sonar showed after the liver flush that the gallstone disappeared.
It is worth trying. Good luck.
thank you nichole and pandara. i have read about the liver flush and am very tempted to try it. but looking for someone under whose personal guidance it can be done. am sort of apprehensive of trying it on my own. but yes, i will write to your friend, pandara.
thanks again

Hi Supriya,
The discomfort felt by this condition is acute & you have my sympathies.
Certainly a Liver Flush will break/dislodge stones in the Gallbladder & the Liver.
In most cases this alleviates the need for surgery. Allopathic Medicine seems to favour removal of Gall bladder. An unnecessary practice since it never alleviates the condition just treats the symptoms.
The procedure involves the use of items such as Lemmon Juice, Olive Oil Epson Salts.
If you wish to learn more about it then please do PM me.

Dear Ones,
At the present there is no specific research
(that I am aware of) as to which asanas may
help with cholycystitis…gallstones,
or gall bladder disease. Check with IAYT.
I concur with Nichole…and to add that
an Oriental Medicine approach may be helpful, i.e.,
Acupuncture and appropriate herbs to help
dissolve/break up the stone and prevent future
bile imbalance from the liver.
I have a family member right now on this protocol
to hopefully avert surgery from a single 6mm stone.
The issue with the flush is that it may stir up
smaller stones that can get stuck in various ducts…
that situation can lead one straight into the ER.
Drinking alot of organic green apple juice (juiced from
a juicer) may help as a few studies have shown that the
pectin in them helps the bile imbalance. (My relative is doing
that as well as my suggestions for chair & floor spinal twists.)
So far…so good. Hope that helps you.
Best with Blessings,
Namaste,
Nancy
Dear Pandara,
Curious…how big (size milimeters…mm)
was your “small” stone?
Thanks,
Nancy
Dear Nancy,
The Flush (when properly done) will stir up smaller stones. If a large stone is present then you can be sure that many small stones are also present.
The objective is to do a series of Flushes in order to discharge ALL the stones.
If the procedure is properly followed & supported (in the first instances) by someone with experience then it is safe & yields good results.
My mother who is 84 years old did a good Liver Flush last weekend, she discharged close to 100 small stones, she feels great.
I have supported many individual with this procedure & none required a visit to ER.
The Apple juice has Malic acid in it which helps break down stagnant bile & may even trigger movements of stones. So if an individual has many small stones then either do a Liver Flush procedure (which includes consumption of Apple juice) or do not take Apple juice.
I did a series of Liver Flushes (a few years back) after which the power & the joy of the Asanas came on their own.
I wish you well with your relative, if you would like to learn more than please feel free to PM me.
Love & light
Fin

Dear Fin,
Thank you kindly for your post. Yes, I’m

hanging around in there with the ‘big’ one.

Welcome to the forum jkkanna,
I moved your thread to this one, as I hope it offers your some ideas for your treatment and care.
I noticed that you are in Chennai and I would recommend an appointment at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram for an ayurvedic consultation. http://www.kym.org/ourwork.html.
I also recommend an anti-pitta ayurvedic diet to begin with, while you explore your options.
All the best,
Nichole

My wife, who has never practiced yoga before, tried yesterday and today an inverted pose, just for a few minutes. Since then she has a bitter taste in her mouth.
She has gall stones since many years, so i suppose the bitter taste is related to her gall.
I wonder if it is bad or good for her to practice inverted poses. Any idea?
Hi…just to add to all the other useful advice offererd.
Fast for one day, drink half a cup of olive oil mixed with 4 tablespoons of lemon juice and drink through a straw to make it easier to drink. Then, walk, walk as much as she can after drinking it, even if its on the spot…a few hours is best but do as long as she can. Then when she needs to go to loo the gallstone/s will come out. You may read about adding Epsom Salts but DONT as it can have an adverse response for some people.
The olive oil and lemon juice is safe. The gallstones are green and float. When she goes to loo tell her to look for them/it.
There can be many gallstones that come out.Varying in size people report hundreds sometimes.
Its suggested that the bowel needs to be free from harmful bacterias before you do the Lemon juice flush so if she thinks there might be Irritable bowel syndrome or an unhealthy bowel problem then take Wild Oil of Oregano Gel capsules(off net) Take 2 a day for a week before she does the lemon juice and olive oil flush . Wild oil of Oregano I can vouch for as being a very powerful antioxidant and extremely good at killing bacterias from the gut and bowel.
Take a low dose iron supplement as Wild Oil of Oregano can remove small amounts of Iron from the body.Just do this for one week before the gallstone flush.
To read about this approach type in google…gallstones lemon juice and olive oil…also type in google Wild Oil of Oregano

Hello everyone,
I have read all the postings made here and as per my understandng
yoga can help with gall stones. However does the size of the gall stone
limit its effectivness. Can it help with a stone of 4.4 cm.
Kindly advice as I am still not sure about the best course of treatment.
Thanks
Ouch! I had gallbladder surgery two years ago. I feel your pain. Although I don’t know of specific poses off the top of my head that are specifically meant to relieve gallbladder issues, I do know there are definitely poses to help the gastrointestinal tract. I use yogajournal.com to read up on poses. They have an excellent array of resources and even different poses explaining what they target and to what degree. Good luck!
