About six months ago, my right hip was bothering me. I went to a chiropractor and was told it was my right groin. After a few treatments, icing, etc. It got better. Yesterday, I felt pain in my left groin and now it is bothering me. I practice yoga three times a week, hike, walk, etc. When I have these groin injuries it is painful to walk, do many yoga postures, etc. I’d like to know if there are some recommended poses that would benefit/strengthen the groin area. Thanks.
i wonder if youre having the same issue as i am, please check out my thread.
These inuries, if that is in fact what you are experiencing, take a very long time to heal. I don’t know you personally but may I ask if it’s possible you are over doing it? I ask because you wrote “yoga three times a week, hike, walk” and even tossed in etcetera as though there’s more.
I’m in Seatlle and lord knows we have active lifestyles here. But I question the relationship my students have with their body when they don’t “budget” enough time for real recovery from a body message.
Your groins might just be saying “hey @$$hole, DOWN HERE, pay attention. Cut that out”. Meanwhile you’re trotting off for another set of switchbacks down to Lake Samadhi. Just a thought.
Obviously there are some groin opening asanas like badha konasana.
It might be very painful though. If so you can try a couple of things. First prop the sitting bones to tilt the pelvis forward and bring the sacrum 90? to the floor (perpendicular). Second, use blocks under the outer knees so you can have action in external rotation as the knees drop. As you press the feet together use your awareness in the groins to move them apart - an action opposite to the action in the feet. Be gentle.
If you’re inured you may want to do this pose on your back with the tailbone against the base of the wall and the outer ankles on the wall a foot or so above the center of the pelvis.
I can’t recommend Vrksasana or Virabhadrasana II, or Ardha Chandrasana until you are certain the groins have fully healed.
