Handicapped instructor?

I’m interested in possibly becoming an instructor, but I am a T6-8 paraplegic. I’m not really sure where to start, as I feel I’d probably need special/specific training. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. =)

What an awesome goal! Talk about an outside the box perspective.
I’ve attended workshops on chair yoga and really enjoyed them.
I love how yoga is so inclusive and how deeply it draws practitioners to desire even to need to share with others.

I was just looking at a great book just the other day with mostly seated poses.
I’ll see if I can recall the name after a nights sleep.
And to think of the comeback to anyone who said you couldn’t teach standing poses. I’ve seen it on a shirt: Those who can do those who can’t teach.

Hope that doesn’t offend those easily offended. 20 years of working and living with wheelies and Tigerblood types…I just roll differently.

Again thanks for posting.

Namaste

There are some teachers that do no demonstrate the poses but simply give verbal instruction. You will have to have very sharp verbal skills to really describe how to get into the poses. You might want to think about chair yoga as well or yoga for seniors but you don’t need to limit yourself to that.

Im not understanding what youre mobility is , from your name Im guessing you might have a wheelchair , there is an American Gentleman who teaches yoga from a wheeelchair , He just recently taught in the uk you could check out his story , I have a feeling he has some experience with Mr Iyengar I think . But he may be good place to start , cant remember his name but some googling should help.

I’ve seen somewhere…, maybe yoga magazine… the person who is a teacher for handicapped. you might also look up “chair yoga”. I would think that regular training would be good, but you will have to apply your creativity to modify the practice

You could look up different seated yoga poses. They are actually becoming very popular especially for the elderly population and those who are diagnosed with a disease or disability.

There are a ton of resources available on the internet and in libraries that will help you figured out a way to teach the class.
