Headstand Brainstem Cracking

I’ve been standing on my head for decades and it feels as if my alignment is better all the time. It feels good and I do it for the requisite 5 minutes before variations. In the past month or so I very regularly experience a crack ( or 2 )in the area of my brainstem while, in say, my 4th minute. This doesn’t hurt at all and so far I haven’t noticed any repercussions. I may have moved from the front part of my head to the crown; if I did I am not aware of it. B.K.S. Iyengar says there are 2 places to center the head. I put mine on the crown I think. I know I feel like all the weight is on my head and I am relaxed and it is easy and feels good. I wonder if any one has experienced this also. I am 56 and it could be just an age related lack of cartilage or some such. Namaste

Wow, that sounds very scary to me. When I go for a headstand, you could lace a piece of paper between my head and the floor (if it weren’t for my hands and my hair.)

Yeah, sounds scary but so did Disco and we survived that.( Thank You Bruce Springsteen ) . It doesn’t hurt at all and it doesn’t seem to have any residual effects. I enjoy my headstands. I take my cues from B.K.S. Iyengar who says the weight should be on the head and the arms are for balancing. Plus, you see these awesome pictures ( one in Light on Yoga ) of these older yogis relaxing the day away with only the head touching. Something to shoot for. Namaste
