If your child is asking you to teach him/her a tripod headstand would you do it?
Hello there is no background info. So how can anyone advice you?
Can you do headstand ? i assume you can because of this thread.
If you want anyone to help you you need to include age of youd child, time of practice and so on.
Dear Neon,
Short answer: No. Don’t encourage it. And the question is, why?
There’s no need for children to practice headstands. (We are talking asana right, and not tumbling or playing: momentary feat of balance for fun?)
Not knowing how old, how heavy or strong your child is, there are a number of details to be observed in doing a headstand safely, for yourself as well, and very little need or benefit otherwise. Namely, first having the strength and ability to support almost full weight, only touching the head lightly to the floor. Lots of preliminary strengthening and practice for that they may not want to invest. Children may very well be strong enough if they know how, but if they don’t, they could do themselves more harm than good. Those cervical vertebrae are about the size of a dime, and an injured disc is forever, even if they wouldn’t feel until they reach 30 or 40.

I believe all the pertinent points have been raised here in reply already; safety, effect, intention, and of course a refinement and clarification of the question itself.
If I answer directly I would say “I don’t have children”. However if I did and I was a trained teacher (as I am) and my child was interested in the practice, over the age of seven and had been taught and was versed in the application of yama and niyama, yes I would certainly entertain the request, bearing in mind the appropriate safety concerns for that type of student.
If the question is about play, I would prefer my child find other methods for play than bearing weight on their head.
