Hi everyone, I have a different question for you. I am on complete bedrest because I am pregnant and my cervix is starting to open up way too soon. I have been told to keep my feet elevated and if possible, hips above shoulders laying down. I am very comfortable doing headstands and so I was wondering if you thought it was safe to do a supported headstand, on my bed, against the wall, periodically throughout the day to take pressure off my cervix. Seems logical right?
Just thought I might throw it out there and see if anyone knew anything i didn’t.
Thanks!

Generally speaking I would not consider a headstand on a mattress to be safe at all. And I certainly would not advocate it to any student, any student who was pregnant, or any student under medical care.
Inversions are typically “okay” in the first and second trimester but the student should have a previous headstand practice and ONLY go up when the teacher or an assistant is around to maintain safety.
If it is approved by your health care practitioner you may find placing a block under and across the sacrum, with the knees bent and feet on the mattress to provide some minor relief. It is a mild supported cersion of Setu Bandha or bridge pose.
Of course you’ve not mentioned what trimester you are in nor have you mentioned the breadth and depth of your yoga practice so it is difficult to point you in a direction.
