Health/yoga

My teacher told me once she used to have depression years ago. I did a while ago also (well another condition) but have overcome it largely, and have overcome it largely and yoga has helped.

Is it safe to say this to my teacher? I know they’re trained to handle confidential information, but then it’s just to ask how she used it to overcome it.

I’d love to believe all yoga teachers were taught how to hold a class, create safe space, and provide confidentiality. But I’ve seen too much. We operate in an unregulated industry where teacher trainings pop up daily, have varying curriculum and, on occasion, questionable leadership/intention.

Your particular teacher may be completely trained and prepared for such things. That is something you’d have to know from feeling what’s going on in the room.

This having been said, in a well held studio with properly trained teachers, cultivating a relationship between student and teacher is not only lovely but quite helpful in order to progress.

Well I think for the most part she is a professional teacher. I guess I may have to play it by ear.
