Hello I am a beginner

Dear yoga gurus,

I am a beginner and need your help and guidance. I can’t even sit in Sukhasana for long. :frowning:

Is there any basic stretching asanas I can do that will help me? Right now I use a couple of Pillows for my Sukhasana and eventually I want to get rid of them and sit like everyone else, on the floor. Is it possible at all. And not to sound impatient or anything, but how much time will it roughly take to achieve that.

Thanks a lot in advance and this is a great forum for yoga enthusiasts.

Well, firstly, I think it’s Namaskar…

But I would just do whole body stretches for that purpose; you’ll cover everything! So just try to get your palms flat on the floor as a long term goal, and also to be able to do a bridge from standing straight up.

and of course bending from side to side wouldn’t hurt either. I use the word “hurt” liberally :stuck_out_tongue:

Sri Mahalingam jee, Namastae…

Thanks a lot for your answer. I would start on that immediately.

Actually, the part of India I am from, we say namastae. Namashkar, namaskar etc. are all used frequently depending on where you are. Namastae is not wrong. If you are a Hindi/Sanskrit speaker you will find many “namastae astu bhagwan etc. etc.”…

Sorry if I sound impolite. Thanks again for your help…

Oh! Thank you. I actually did not know this(the Ananda Marga group originating in India implies that Namaskar is more correct than Namaste). Unfortunately, I don’t know much Sanskrit.

I hope you have luck with your Yoga(by the way, I unfortunately am no guru, yet :))
