Hello - now that was original

You can call me T everyone else does

I am not any great expert at Yoga more of a beginner/novice, even though I have been at it for a few years now (few meaning about 2 maybe 3). I do enjoy it but what I do is looked down on by some since it is Power Yoga which I have been told by a few I need to learn real Yoga  but it works for me so for now I think I will stick with it. I am mainly a long time martial artist (over 30) and for the last 18 years I have been training Chinese Martial Arts but these days I focus mainly on Taijiquan and the qigong of Taiji, Sanhsou and Qigong; Ba Duan Jin and in a couple of months I am off to learn swimming dragon. And of late I have gotten very interested in Mindfulness and Zen as well.

Someday, when I have time, I will get back to Yoga classes and I have even gone as far as locating a few schools in my area (none Power Yoga) and recently discovered a long time friend of mine is a Yoga Therapist. I knew she did Yoga but I did not know what exactly until recently.

I have been looking around the sight and it appears there is a lot I can learn here to help keep me going

Nice to be here

Welcome to the Forum.

There are few experts these days, because everyone wants to be an expert, my teacher used to say.

 Hi T.

All power to you.

Thanks

I believe I agree with your teacher.

From my point of view in Martial Arts it I tend to try and always be a student because in my opinion as soon as someone refers to themselves as a master or an expert the learning stops and stagnation begins.

In Yoga I am so much a beginner this is never going to be an issue  and the few people I have encountered, including my last teacher, never gave me any impression that they were anything more than a teacher. It was rather refreshing actually after the multiple of martial arts experts/masters I have run into in the last 30 or so years.

But this is a Yoga site not a martial arts site and I am here to learn more about yoga and I have a lot to learn

An expert is a human being who knows more and more things about fewer and fewer things. At the limit, he knows everything about nothing.

Thanks, I have learned alot looking around on the site already

T – how lovely that your intro post was used to illustrate a forum fact: in order to discourage folks who join the forum only to post ads we require people post a certain number of times before they can post a link. This person satisfied the requirement with gibberish and then posted his link – as if Yoga people wouldn’t notice and would still give the benefit of their energy (following the posted link.)

Welcome to the forum! Is there anything in particular you are looking to learn?

No worries and thanks.

I currently do a little power Yoga that I learned a few years ago but I do believe I want to learn more. A fiend of mine, that has been training yoga for many years (Iyengar and some other style) recently offered to give me some lessons and she also pointed me in the direction of an Iyengar teacher that come June, when my schedule lightens up, I might just go check out. I can only train for 3 months but 3 months is better than nothing
