Hello

Hi! My name’s Holly, I’m 14 years old:] I have a lot of stress and a lot of free time (as crazy as that sounds lol) Anyways… I was just hoping that doing some yoga could help me be more calm and collected but we don’t really have the money for a class or anything so I decided to try a forum :] I know a couple poses but their too advanced for me… do you have any suggestions for a beginner? Thanks so much :)

Hi holly, wlcm to the forum. I can suggest you this book for beginners “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Yoga”.

Namaste Holly,

Welcome to the Forum, please use the search function, there are many wonderful post where you might also find very helpful info.

I know that the stress loaded onto young people can be hectic and I am glad that you have found yoga as it will add some balance to your life. However, I would really like to ask that you perhaps consider going down to your nearest yoga centre or studio and ask if you can swap your time for a few classes, just to give you a sense of what you must do. The danger of learning bad habits now on your own is magnified and those habits might cause you serious problems later in your life. At 14 your body’s ability to heal is still very good, but as you aged this ability starts to diminish and the mistakes of our youth start to catch up with you at some point.

There is a natural progression in yoga which is usually in harmony with your body and to learn to listen to your body and at the same time sensing what progression you need in the poses might be very challenging and here a good teacher can give you good pointers and the necessary direction.

Good luck and I sure hope someone out there will be willing to help you and take you on, if you lived in my part of the world I would have asked you to come and join my classes for free.

Holly, try contacting a local studio and basically tell them what you have told us. Perhaps they will offer a class to you on a what you can pay basis.
Try contacting:

or

Hopefully they are close enough for you to get to.

Best of luck I will be sending you some good thoughts as I practice this evening.

Diana

I want to thank you all very much for your greetings and suggestions! I am going to send an E-mail to the staff at Plasha Yoga (because this is closer to me) and see what they say. Hopefully we can work something out  If not… well, I’ll just take it easy on my own. Thanks again, everyone!

Hey, Holly!
Also, please do not forgo benefits of other activity. A bunch of stress, but time to spend on it, can resolve in many ways – like basketball, knitting, gardening for old folks, talking to friends and parents. . . Adding just one beautiful activity to conquer stress in general might not be a complete solution for you.
Keep us posted!

Thank you for your concern! Actually I am literally right in the middle of creating a website. I am going to have a small crocheting business because I found that this calms me. So I’m pretty excited about that and can only hope it will go well

hi holly according to my knowledge any asana can be done by any body but some some people think that by seeing the master “he is doing perfectly like that i cont do so it is typical one” actually how much u can do or how much u can bend with out any stress and comfort position that is perfect one for you …you should not not put any pressure on your body just do as much u can and concentrate in ur breathing observe ur breathe thats it --------and start with surya namaskar " it will better and do relaxly concentrate thats it all the best

welcum holly!!! i sruely agree to Maranatha…
