Hi and question

Hi,

My name is Paul and I’m giving Yoga a try. Was wondering if someone could possibly answer my question? Right now I’m just trying out different Asanas without any real sequence or flow and really enjoying myself. I don’t have the $$$ for classes and my wrists aren’t the greatest so I kind of just get up and move from one asana to another. Any harm in this? It puts me in a meditative state and I can tell you it’s doing good for my flexibility. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Paul,

The most important thing to remember when doing yoga like this is to balance the asanas, certain asanas follow each other for a reason and this is where a teacher would be of great assistence. When you do a series of forward bends it is important to balance them with a few back benders. Initially this might work for you, but the value of having a teacher who teaches the sublties of yoga is of considerable value and I think you must make enquiries in your town. Some teachers have reduced prices or you may exchange your free time by helping out at a studio for some classes.

Good Luck and I trust someone will help you.

Is their a site that possibly would help with this? That would explain what are the matches for asanas?

Hi Paul…I’m new to yoga as well as yourself , although I am very fortunate to have found a studio that I feel is well suited to me I don’t always find the time to get to it’s location (45 minutes from home). When this happens I use the following site :
Yoga Today : Get Started Today
Adi Amar is one of my favorites on this site and have found in particular her Ashtanga classes very well done.
Hope this is of help…and it’s free!

Hi Paul,

It would take ages to explain which asanas follow which ones and why etc. Visit the following site, they have a programme that you can follow which is well balanced and the postures is animated on this site as well.

Site: Yoga Info, News, Pictures, Forum, Shop, Travel and Community @ ABC-of-Yoga

Good Luck

Hello Paul. I’ve quoted your text above so I can respond to more of its elements.

  1. You are enjoying yourself. In that case there isn’t really a calling to intervene in what you are doing, is there? The proof in the pudding is (often) in the eating.

  2. Make yoga important in your life and manifest the money. Be creative. Volunteer at a studio/ Barter. Exchange. Cut out something you are currently spending on.

  3. Meditative state? This always makes my spidey-senses tingle. Are you blissed out? Unfocused? What does meditative state mean? It may be perfectly fine but it warrants additional discourse.

  4. It is always best to keep powerful tools in the hands of those who know how to wield them. Yoga is a powerful tool and so my personal preference is that students do not play around - though there is certainly validity in being playful and playing around, I just would not do it with a buzz saw.

So as my colleague Pandara outlines it is in your best interest over time to pursue the practice with a skilled teacher. You may develop the proper foundations to move forward in the practice on your own by accident or highly refined intuition - or you may not.

do not get up immediately from asana , u have to do it slowly , u need to maintain a balance between backward bending and forward bending . do some research before its too late.
