Hi everyone! I do yoga, and pilates "the 100"

Hey everybody! i signed up to talk about my experience and see what else people are doing,

so i do the 100 everyday, sometimes i do about 150 or 200

and then i do yoga at least three times a week,
as long as im not too sore, my experience is going really good!

i started yoga in june and now i can really see a difference in my health and i love it! i can imagine not doing it…i use to think yoga was very foreign to me, but its really just excersizing! its in its own form and it really does great things, but i guess felt like i never “got it” before

: )

Welcome iamthescottie!

You have an exuberance to your writing that caught my attention. I am a “newer” practitioner of sorts in many ways as well. You will find here that Yoga is many things to many people.

Personally, I have done Pilates before (though I do not understand your number reference), but found yoga to wrap me up and show me an entirely different view on life. It has become a journey unto itself; so I understand your excitement. What types of classes are you taking? Does your center/studio offer a variety of classes?

“The hundred” is a basic (as an elementary constituent, not as beginner) Pilates exercise, lying on your back, with the hands lifted just above the floor, with a half-crunch like elevation of the head and shoulders, and performing a rapid succesion of 5 small breaths in, and 5 short breaths out, while pumping with the hands from the shoulders up and down at every breath, without touching the ground or rasing them more than a hand above the pelvis. Picture fast, reduced amplitude crunches paired with a kind of ujjayi. The name comes from the required number of repeats. Variations include lifted, extended legs, or performing the exercise on a bench and so on.

In spite of being taxing on the abdominal muscles it is supposed to be a breathing excercise - the only specific breathing exercise in Pilates as far as I know. Prescribed breathing (timing and correlation of inhalations and exhalations with various movements) is a component of all Pilates exercises but never the major one like in The Hundred.

Good Afternoon Hubert,

I guess I never got that far into Pilates. Thank you for the explanation. I imagine iamscottie has pretty strong abdominals, lol.

We do something similar in my Jivamukti class, only it goes to whatever the instructor feels like playing on his ipod. I never count though, just moved and breathe with the music. It is pretty cool since you can focus on both the breathe and the message or rhythms of the song.

Thanks again!

Yeah i really like the 100’s results, i dont really do the breathing fast, until i learn to count that way, (right now i count in my head 1,2,3,4,5, 1 etc)

but yeah if your looking for really nice abdominals the 100 is great!

( i also do obliques, then everything else is all yoga )
