I have been working on strengthening my gluteus maximus and the deep 6 rotators because of my SI. I feel that my left external rotators are much tighter than my right. Can asymmetric hip rotators cause stress on the knee? What part of the knee would this affect? Would the best thing to do would be to stretch the external rotators?
Tighter muscles mean you would have less internal hip rotation on your left side. Correct? Yes, asymmetry will definitely affect the knee. If the internal rotators are tight they will pull the knee and foot outward into external hip rotation causing stress to the outer knee, especially to the lateral collateral ligament. If you stretch the external hip rotators you will have greater ROM in internal hip rotation.
