Brandi,
It is fact that Hot Yoga is what also known as Bikram Yoga branded by Vikram Chaudhary. It is not practising the most Yoga methods (asanas, mudras, pranayamas and dhyan) in a sauna but practising more of asanas, less of breathing exercises and meditations, at certain room temprature.
I believe such an unque way of performing asanas is more suitable in cool countries with lower tempratures.
if you practice those in cold countries at winter your body will be in shock, first 40 celsius then when you are going home it can be below 0.
Some studios heat the room for some or all of their classes anywhere from 80F, to 100F, to beyond. Some also add humidity. Some of these classes are “named” styles of yoga such as Baptiste and Bikram, some are not. Some people like the heat, some don’t.
I’m in the camp that despises rooms heated anything past what I’d consider normal room temp. I also sometimes see places heating their vinyasa classes while not heating more static (often referred to as hatha) classes, which makes little sense to me - if anything it would make more sense to me to heat the hatha class and let people generate their own heat in the vinyasa class. I also think most of the reasons people give for using heat are bogus, but that’s another thread.
Tried it? Absolutely.
It’s fine, even nice. My own practice started with a vinyasa style asana practice. But it is not the appropriate practice for me at this time.
