Good one!
If you spent the time and put forth the effort to finish a 200 hour course, I doubt you would use your certificate as toilet paper.
“How are Yoga Certifications Perceived?”
To a yogi/yogini they are perceived as nonsense since Yoga is a transformation not a certificate.
“How are Yoga Certifications Perceived?”
To a non yogi/yogini they are perceived as sensible, causing the sickness to spread.
Dare I venture a guess?

Guess is meaningless, direct experience is meaningful.
Do I have to experience the disease?

Perhaps it?s better to prevent sickness therefore suffering will not follow in its wake. The yogic science?s is a vast and comprehensive 8 limbed methodology for self-liberation, elimination of suffering. Present day commercialization of the yoga asana scratches the surface, hopefully it will lead to further explorations but most seem to get stuck? Obviously the commercial market is huge representing interest and effort to explore, unless one is simply trying to reinforce personal ego why not pursue a deeper investigation of mind/spirit and begin the yoking process?
It can be used in many ways.
It can be used to pacify one’s integrity and lead them to believe they are all-knowing after 200 hours of study.
It can be used as a foundation from which to grow a deep understanding and therefore a deeper sharing of the practice.
It can be used as a tool of validation that one has made a certain commitment to the work.
It can be used as a marketing tool to assuage the concerns of others looking for credentialed teachers.
My personal belief is that it represents only a bare minimum of training (for teaching yoga) and therefore can only be a building block (toward teaching) or a nice addition to one’s personal practice. Just like a house, the foundation is essential to the construction of what is upon it.
The curiosity led me to the opportunityt take teacher training.
The certification is a by-product.
