How often do you practice?

I was just wondering how much time you put in to the actual asana practice of yoga. Daily? Weekly? More? I’m trying to get my own flow down and I always like to hear from others about their’s. Thanks and take care. Peace.

I have a practice I try to do every day in the morning or evening, sometimes both. It takes about 45 minutes. I try to incorporate awareness into most movements that I make during the day, at work, at play, swimming… I am aware of my posture, my stance, the balance of my body.

Actually… yoga pervades my entire existence. If I’m not physically doing yoga or asana, then I’m thinking about it. I’m pretty sure there is a 24 hour ticker in my head, unifying every thought or experience to yoga practice or philosophy. That being said, I do sometimes (always) skimp on my yogasana practice, and I should probably start surrendering more to it - because this is obviously a foundational part of my life. Thanks for the wakeup call.

I do yoga every morning for around 45min to 1 hour. This is what I do:

Around 10 minutes of meditation.
Sukhma Vyayam as per Ramdevji’s Video.
Asanas in the following order: Mukutasan, Shashakasan, Bhujangasan, Shulabhasan, Markatasan, Shirshasana, Shavasan,

Pranayams in the following order: Bhastrika, Kpalbhati, Bahyan Pranayam, Anolom Vilom, Bhramri, Udgidh Pranayam.

Depdning upon the day, somtimes I enjoy doing 1 but not the other. But I do spend some time doing each of the above everyday since last 2 months. Hopefully I can keep this up- for life.

After the last yoga conference I used to get up early for 1 hr to practise Sun Salutation
pranayama and meditation.

I find problem of lacking energy recently, unsure becos of pure veggie meals or doing yoga everyday ( before I do yoga every alternate day and not a veg )

So tire each evening that I need to figure out what’s my actual problem in order to make thing right .

Now I am in pure veg even without milk , is it bcos of mal nutrition ? really want to know

Tina - Please, tell me what your diet is like during a typical day. If you have gone completely veg & not-milk without adding certain things to your diet, you may be lacking in nutrients and proteins. I can suggest many things that would help create a better diet for you to go with your lifestyle. Also, what type of practice of yoga do you do in the morning? Is it strenuous? I also need to know the type of climate you live in - is it warm?

I do asana practice 6 days a week but I don’t have a life so…

I live in Hong Kong now is summer hot and humid ,but we used to turn on aircon once step into our home. In the morning first I will practise 8 round Sun salutations , then practise sun breathing for 15 mins and 5 mins for belly rolling. At last sit for the meditation ( inhale 1 exhale 2 …until 100 ) then rush to work . My food is Kiwi fruit + bread in the morning. Green veg + rice + fruit ( any ) , night time is veg + fruit + rice.
If hungry between meal I will eat nuts ,drink fruit juice.

that’s my yaga & food for a day

Your diet does not seem to contain a lot of protein. This is very important for bodily functions and repair of damaged tissue. While all food contains some protein, try to add more foods from a variety of these sources:
Lentils like chickpeas, black beans, dal, whatever is available to you.
Soy
Nuts (almonds! yum!)
Rice
Potato

Not all protein rich foods are the same either, while meat and dairy contain all the right combination of protein to sustain life, vegetarians should combine foods that contain different proteins in order to meet their needs. It is very simple to do. For instance, grains and legumes (beans and rice) together create a complete protein. Nuts and seeds together with legumes, like a lentil soup with almonds on the side also create a complete protein.

So perhaps for one meal of the day, like lunch, you could add some beans along with your rice. Protein best serves the body in the morning, so it could also help you to have peanut butter on your bread in the morning, and would be even greater if your bread was whole grain (two good protein sources). Try adding a protein rich food to one of your meals during the day, and see if that gives your more energy at night. Keep having nuts for a snack, they are very good for you, and be sure that you are having enough oils in your diet. Avocados/butterfruit, vegetable oil on your vegetables - these contain very important fatty acids that your body needs.

In the meantime, find a vegetarian website online and look into where you can find sources of B vitamins, which are very necessary to keep up your energy and safety for the nervous system. Many vegetarians do not get any of them, as they are mostly available naturally only in meat and a few other places.

Good luck!

Asanas
Before I was a mom: daily one hour or even up to 3 times a day.
After I became mom: 4 times a week.

Surprisingly I glen more benefits from the less frequent practice because it feels more like a treat.

thanks Suryadaya, I will try to follow see my situation is getting better soon

I’m usually too stiff in the morning to do much, plus I get up early for work, so in the morning I do only a few rounds of sun salutation. The best time for me is after work and before dinner. My body is warm and flexible and my stomach is empty, so that is when I do the more strenuous exercises. Later at night I do sitting asanas and maybe some inversions. It takes too much time to do it all at once, so I split it up. I do all three in the same day maybe only once or twice per week, but I try to do something most days. I live alone, so it’s a little easier for me to do this than for others.

i always do asanas every morning, some times i feel stiff, sometimes i feel great, but i think it’s normal, i just adjust the asanas i’m going to practice on how i feel, but recently i will always do 5-10 rounds of Sun Salutation before i go to the asanas i want to practice, cause i have better flexibility and strength now after doing it reguraly , but yes for now i do Yoga asanas 6-7 days 60-90 minutes each time, i hope i can do it for the rest of my life :D.

:o

lol

you DO have a life…

hmmm what does that say about me

i had been practicing 7 days a week up to 4 hours per day , but actually lost motivation a couple of weeks ago leading up to the full moon , unsure why

just felt like really heavy energy pushing me down

might be a topic for a new thread if i cant find an answer in meditation
.

actually i should also say…

that if i do make the effort to do yoga in the morning , my whole day flows and works better

more cases of synchronicity

better clearer thinking

clearer intuition

simply more good luck flows

.

Thank you so much for replying. I definitly think that doing yoga in the morning would help me as well. I think the day flowing easier is exactly what I need because right now I am so jumbled and all over the place I need to get my yoga practice back into my life on a regular basis. Thanks for sharing!

every day 1.5 to 3 hours
