How to classify yoga teaching study/dream experience

Hello,

Would the study of or listening to yoga teachings qualify as a type of yoga? Just a thought. Also, I listened to Georg Feuerstein’s recordings one night (?The lost teachings of yoga?) and had some unique and vivid dreams. I listened just before bed. Thoughts, comments welcome.

of course.
contemplation is a key aspect of yoga and one of the first ones to put in your yoga practice. WIth contemplation comes understanding, with understanding comes change

It would not be a “type” of yoga as your text states. But I would agree that it, in conjunction with other things can “BE” yoga. All things are yoga (technically) yet what we have to watch out for there is the opposite swing of the pendulum such that we use “all things are yoga” as a cop out or avoidance.

Relative to the dreaming, I think more information is warranted before going further. Obviously late night eating habits tend to stimulate vivid dreaming. I suppose if it were a piercing read, as Georg can be, it could release something in the sub-conscious mind.

Study is one of the niyamas. It is very important to occupy the mind with spiritual writings. The yamas and niyamas cover every aspect of our life, and it is natural that we are better in some and weaker in others. Reading scriptures, holy books (of whatever religion), listening to or watching spiritually advanced people is part of the journey. In fact, it is the fire what ignites our aspirations, a fire what must be kept burning. Because before we can experience supranatural realities, we must first mentally know about their existence. It is just like tourists using maps. The maps are not the reality, but they help us choose and follow our own way.
