How to fight my hyperness/racing mind/nervousness?

i guess im adhd, but its not bad enough to take meds…but still kinda significant.

my main issues -

when im with friends i get exicited, and talk fast, go from topic to topic fast, and am really weird/goofy.

when im alone i find my self pacing alot and thinking EVERYTHING and its kinda exhausting mentally.

what i plan to do cope -

meditation

relax and take things slower…focus one thing at a time…

input?

u seem to know the answers already

Me and my brother were once like that. He got adhd diagnosed, i didnt, because i never saw my very active brain as a problem, actually i have always been gratefull, although it is very exhausting sometimes as you say.

The good news is that his diagnose made me want to cure him, since i dont believe in ritalin and other adhd meds, and along the way i discovered some important stuff:

Nutrition has an important role, and also relaxation.

I stopped eating meat (very well on my way to be a vegan), and started doing yoga, pranayama and meditation. I wanted to test my theory on my self before presenting it to my brother. And it “cured” me. My mind became so peacefull. It was just amazing. So i introduced my brother to it, and boom, no more meds

I made it my lifeswork to find a “cure” to adhd, mainly because of all the misdiagnosed children who are put on strong medication, so i have gathered a lot of info. You can ask me about nutrition, and maybe most important of all, WHY yoga, pranayama and meditation works.

The only thing is that you cant expect to do yoga, pranayama, meditation for 6 months and then be cured. It is a lifestyle you will have to adopt to get the long term peace, but i guarantee you that you will love it, and yourself

If you have any questions, feel free to write me. I believe i can help you

EDIT: It’s important for me to mention that it is not necessary to stop eating meat, to handle your symptoms. But it will make your body feel a whole lot better, and make you benefit more from your yoga, pranayama and meditation (sorry for my propaganda). And if you read this and think to yourself; “Gee, it seems like a lot of work” - it really isn’t when you get startet

If you can find a yoga studio near you that offers guided meditation, I think you would really see the benefits. It’s easy to say “I am going to meditate to help my ADHD problem.” However, it is difficult to do this without guidance at first. If you are successful in this, you will be able to harness all of the thoughts that you have running through your mind and use that energy for something positive.

I wish you the best of luck!

Also, the more you can focus on your breath, the less you will focus on the thoughts that are racing throw your mind.

Remember, yoga is great for this. Ramakrishna, once said: “The mind is like a drunken monkey stung by a scorpion.” And as Patanjali said, “Yoga is the cessation of the fluctuations of the mind.” So you have come to the right place. Consider this as an opportunity to guide your mind.

Yep, learn to focus on one thing at a time. What you describe as ADHD is basically the scattered mind of Yoga and it is very common. The more you discipline your mind through the practice of Yoga(the full Patanjali Ashtanga path) the more focused your mind will become.

Next time you are out with friends, when you notice yourself speeding through your sentences, just take a pause and slow down. You will find most people speed through their sentences, especially sales people, because when we talk slow and deliberate, we are exposing what we are really thinking - others can actually sense you thinking and this leaves us exposed and vulnerable - but the more comfortable you can become with doing this, the more sincere, honest you will become, and less conflicts within. I have noticed my best conversations with people is when I am completely spontaneous and honest.

Your plan to meditate is commendable. Based upon the way you have described yourself I suggest that you start with longer ‘moving meditations’ and brief sitting/lying meditations (guided). Over time you can progress to longer guided meditations, and eventually to your own unguided meditation practice.

By moving meditation I mean either go for a walk while you focus on your breathing (inhalation/exhalation), a mantra or some other center point. Or turn your hatha yoga practice into a moving meditation. you can do this by joining a yoga class with a skilled instructor who focuses on awareness and being still in the mind, or you can do this at home by practicing a few yoga poses while focusing on your breath, mantra or body awareness.

At HathaYoga.net I’ve posted a tutorial for upward facing dog that invites you to step into a moving meditation.

There are also many free guided meditations on the internet. I stumbled across one about overcoming fear the other day that was very skillfully done - I think it was called ‘The Meditation Podcast’. I’m also hoping to ad more guided meditations (as opposed to ‘moving meditations’ to HathaYoga.net over the next couple of weeks.

Depression arises when the mind lingers in the dead past, anxiety occurs when the mind projects to the illusionary future, examine the state of mind when one remains in the present now.

Bolno: Hi. I’m new to this forum but I could really relate to your topic. I’m a teacher and find that my hyperactivity has to be tempered when I am in front of my students. Sometimes I find myself talking too fast while my mind is going ten times faster than my mouth which is already at high speed. I found that doing a lot of exercise helps to slow me down considerably. I also play a lot of background relaxation music both in the car on my way to and from work, and in my home. Sometimes I need it in my classroom for both myself and my students. I found that using scented oils help also. There are fragrances that are on the market which are for calm and some which are for focus. Meditation, exercise, Yoga, fragrances, and the proper music helps this kind of thing a lot. Good luck. I’m in the same boat that you are.
