I am looking for ideas of teaching yoga to school going kids up to the age of twelve.
My first encounter with yoga was when I was about 8 or 10 years old, at my school.
I remember it because I connected with it and loved it so much!
I advise you to use the fun names for the poses - butterfly for Baddha Konasana, Cat-Cow pose (and you can have them moo and meow in the poses), Lion Face, wheel pose, etc. You get the idea! We even did savasana, but they did not call it corpse pose when I was a child, I think that name might turn some kids off, thinking of lying like a dead body, when they really should be thinking of just becoming completely relaxed.
the experience was very positive for me, and I remember it to this day. This from a person who does not remember many events from her childhood!
What size is your group?
I teach quite a bit in schools… I think the trick is to not be too technical and to be flexible with your goals. You sometimes have to let the kids interests lead the way
