hello
I have sinus in the head. What Should I do .
I did buy NetI pot. I dont know how to use it Does any one knows.
did it come with directions?
I once saw some videos on youtube of people directing the use of a Neti Pot
Good luck to you!
Thanks for the info. What do i put in water.
Hi,
In this old thread on the neti and manuka honeyyou will find some useful information on mixes to use.
What most articles or videos on the neti don’t tell you is the importance of drying the nostrils afterwards, otherwise you might experience cold-like symptoms afterwards.
To dry the nostrils:
Stand erect
Close the right nostril and breathe in and out 5-10 times in quick succession, empasising exhalation as in kapabhati pranayama.
Repeat the other side.
Bend forward from the waist so that the trunk is horizontal.
Now close the right nostril while tilting the head to the right as well and repeat the breathing in and out.
Repeat the other side.
Finally repeat again witht he head centres, but through both nostrils standing errect.
Please also note that if the water do not pass through the nose fairly easily, you may have other problems and I would advise you to consult a doctor in that case, for example in cases of severe sinusitis.
Hello Kizen THANK YOU for the video
Hello Pandara In the begining water came through mouth ( i am a first time user) but then it came from other nostril. I did dry nostrils
Before using net pot my right ear was and is blocked i did remove was using cotton buds
Still my right ear is semi blocked.
rajeevji – when I neti I will often exhale with pursed lips (almost like whistling) to help my soft palate lift against the weight of the water. I am not satisfied that I have discovered the optimum angle for my head but I am also rather new to the practice.
If the water comes through your mouth, tilt you head until it runs through the nostril and breath through your mouth that will also prevent the water from running into your throat and mouth.
Neti is suppose to clean the nostrils of mucus and other pollutants not the ears. If your ears are blocked, please see a doctor, there might be a secondary infection in your ears.
HI rajeevji!
Welcome to the wonders of the neti At first start doing it with just water and sea salt. about 1 teaspoon of salt for 2 cups of water. If neti still feels uncomfortable after a few tries then you might want to ajust the followings.
1 - salt /water ratio. too much are not enough salt will feel uncomfortable.
2 - water temperature
3 - type of water. bottle water vs tap watter because of the chlorine.
Once you have mastered the right temperature and amount of salt it will be very soothing to do.
This is how I make my neti’s. I have a 1L plastic bottle that is marked a bit above half. I put room temperature water up to the line then fill it up to the top with hot water. I have a bottle water dispenser with the hot water option Then I put in 2 small teaspoons of sea salt, shake it then poor into my neti pot. Always perfect!
Does anyone know the suggested clinical ratio for neti salt to water solution?
the instructions i’ve got say 1g (1/4 teaspoon) to 200ml. i guess 1/4 teaspoon is half of a level(a level being half of a rounded-(7g i read somewhere online? though even this is questionable, spoons sometimes vary in size)) though i don’t have scales
this website says, 0.9%, human blood , an isotonic solution, pulled from here
Does any of this make sense and what would be your answer, in a nutshell.?
NaCl-H2O, wieght for weight.
Ever been swimming in the ocean?.. Same strength as sea water, at body temperature. Do it to taste.
what I do is first I mix a stronger solution in hot water in a separate container. Fill the neti half-full with that, and then add cool water, tasting it in steps, until it’s just right in both temperature and salinity.
have fun,
siva
actually that sounds about right does’nt it?
200ml-1g
is actually the same as,
500ml-1/2 imperial teaspoon(=3g)
37C is body temperature.
thanks for the valuable feedback. appreciated siva. nice one!
i’ve done it by taste myself in the past and sensed it should probably be like seawater but was aalways somewhat curious about the suggested dose in clinical terms. but the 2 sources i have compared look consitent
I think the salinity of ocean is a bit on higher side. Better practice with around 1/2 teaspoon for 2 cups of water.
