I hurt my back about 1.5 years ago when my helper lost his grip and footing on a 900lb lift leaving me with all the wieght to hold up so he wouldnt get crushed. Sense my back tends to get thrown out alot easier then it ever used to. I used to do alot of wieght training, but havnt in the last year do to a hand injury i took on and it seems like it got worse sense i stopped the wieght training. Its a pain in my lower left side of my back, when it gets bad i can feel it in my pelvis a bit and it will even start to progress up my back a bit on my spine at times. I think yoga would be the way to fix this. any suggestions?
Yoga does not “fix” things.
In the right circumstances, with the right student, the right attitude, the right teacher, a full-bodied yoga practice can support the body’s own healing process.
Severe injuries need to be assessed. Perhaps a diagnosis or exam by your health care practitioner would help. In yoga the assessment is performed by highly skilled teachers. That assessment typically is “in-person”. Once assessed then a protocol for that particular student with that particular issue can be crafted and implemented.
If you are serious about pursuing yoga to support your healing and you’ve got the gumption to stick to it and be patient with it, then please find a therapeutically trained yoga teacher near you and work in private sessions.
