Hurt my lower back last night in class

I took a pretty vigorous class last night with lots of fast paced vinyasas and back bends. I am very new to back bends. Last night was my first time trying full wheel pose in class. My lower back is really aching today. Any suggestions on warming up to back bends or if I should skip or modify certain poses until I progress further in my practice?

Thanks!

Go to a class at the appropriate level with a properly qualified teacher who can teach you how to work progressively, safely and effectively with backbends.

Are you certain it was the back bends that is the cause of your lower backache? Aggressive forward bends can create stress in the lower back, buttocks, and hamstrings.

Flex, you know, it might have been a forward bend now that I think about it… the room was hot so I was feeling extra “bendy” and touched my nose to my knees (with straight legs sitting) for the first time. Also, I did full wheel pose for the first time since I was little in the same class so who knows? I pushed myself to far one way or another. I’ve been taking it slower in class since then.
