I am Crumpled

Hi, I have joined this site because I really do need to start doing yoga properley, as I am crumpled. Crumpled in that after twenty years of working in heavy industry, numerous accidents, slipped disc, sciatica and a lousy lifestyle for the past three years of struggling with depression, I am aware I am not good.

I have just started to learn oriental dance, and my limitations have become apparent, my posture apparently at rest is twisted and lop sided which is not helping with my desire to learn dance, so I have to get this sorted out and it has made me aware of my condition.

I have done bits of yoga in the past, just stuff gleaned from an old U.S. paperback, ‘Yoga for Men’, self taught from the book, but I understand I might not be doing things correctly, so my current desire is to start a Yoga class.

So many different types of yoga, but which one is for me, maybe here I will find out ?

Hi there and welcome to the forum! It sounds like you are ready to make some positive changes in your life–you will get plenty of support for that here. All of us have come to Yoga for our own reasons, many of us for the same reasons as your own. You are in good company!

To get you started on the forum, I wanted to share with you that there is a wealth of information here already and that you can use the search function and keywords to help you find existing threads on almost any Yoga-related topic.

Here are a couple of threads using the keyword beginner to get you started:

Kind regards,
Nichole

Not “crumpled” but “ready to blossom”.

Thankyou for the welcome, and I do see the benefits of this site, so will stay I think.

Talking on another site, oriental dance related about this posture problem, it has been strongly suggested I see a doc before embarking on a range of exercises. This I would tend to agree with, except I am in the UK and there subject to the NHS system, which is sadly lacking in that doctors generally do not have the time, patience and sometimes the funding to be positive in their advice. In some cases, doctors do not like patients who seek to learn about their own healthcare.

Being cynical has come with practice, these past three years have made that so, and I have not the funding for private health care. It is why I seek to repair my ills myself through what I can find out for myself, and often engage in self administered aromatherapy and phytotherapy.
