I got an erection during class

I’m an 18 y/o guy who has been going to hatha yoga classes for a few weeks, and yesterday i decided to try a kundalini yoga class. For some reason I’m pretty sure the instructor was actually teaching a kama sutra class because of all the pelvic thrusts/moaning/gyrating/talking about my “SEX ORGANS” etc. Obviously this was getting me more then a little aroused, but i tried to contain myself. At one point she’s like “no, this is how you do the breathing exercises” she proceeds to get down on her hands and knees, (with her ass almost in my face) pulled her shirt up to a few inches above her belly button and her pants down to where i can see the elastic of her panties and is like “watch me” (the only thing i could see was her ass contracting). So at that point i was dealing with an erection for the rest of class which i had hoped nobody had seen. At the end of class i went up to her and thanked her/said goodbye but as i walked out the door i could hear her turn to her friend and say “i think he got an erection” So basically what i’m asking is what do i do?

Men your age tend to get aroused when the wind blows.

That having been said, the two possibilities are that your perceptions were spot on and this was an inappropriate style, method, or demo (for you at this stage of your practice) OR the behavior was very commonplace and innocuous but your perceptions took it elsewhere.

In my view a good teacher understands the nature of their students at all levels of their development AND teaches to that in an appropriate way. Maybe that isn’t happening in this particular class with this particular teacher.

Some practices stoke the fires that (already) dwell in the pelvis. Assuming the intentions of Yoga and its requirements relative to the evolution of the aspirant, this sort of stoking is not helpful. Perhaps if you were living alone in a cave tending to goats this would need attention. In the current context of our society, not so much

What to do?
You can continue that style of class without doing a thing and see. You can continue but have a frank conversation with the teacher. You can continue with another teacher. Or you can find a practice that does not place its focus on releasing an energy coiled up in the pelvis.

Sorry, i guess i didn’t explain well enough. I don’t think she was doing anything inappropriate, just that i’m scared she’ll think i’m some kind of pervert and that i’ll get kicked out of the studio or be hated. Like you said “Men your age tend to get aroused when the wind blows.” i honestly wouldn’t care if she was hitting on me.

There are far more items that classify as “inappropriate” than hitting on you.

I’ve heard that kundalini yoga classes can actually be quite dangerous to the psyhe. My dad is a psychologist and very spiritual but he has heard well documented horror stories of people becoming mentally disabled after practicing kundalini meditation/yoga.

I’d do your research before continuing with this practice.

Just tell us, where exactly is this person teaching and what is her name?

Hey, I’m well into my 50s and had a few nudges myself. Hard not too in a room full of sweaty, half naked beautiful people. It’s not a sin. Accept that your body energy is flowing nicely and move on to the next asana.

everything that has been said seems on point. from what was described though i doubt this to be the case, but i was reading an essay on kundalini the other day and it was explaining a connection between the kundalini and sexual energy. this isn’t what i was reading, but it helps…

"You will have absolutely no doubt that it has come because you will have spontaneous, prolonged and an impossible-to-block sexual excitement (erection in the case of men), with or without external stimuli, usually coming in hours-long waves that may come during the day or at night.

Don’t be afraid. This is an extremely positive energy. Kundalini is the very energy of the spirit and has nothing to do with sex or desire. Don’t repress it and beware only of the excesses of dosage which may tire you a lot."

i can’t give the link, but if you want it, google “kundalini erection”…no joke

I don’t believe you. I think you made this up.

Oh dear…how you poor guys suffer:roll::roll::roll::roll:

I said I didn’t believe what Rein said, about the yoga teacher show her ass in his face…

is the accuracy of his story important?

if he is “making this up” does that mean what underlies the story, basically speaking, the relationships between “erections/sexual excitement, kundalini, and yoga” become worthless of discussion?

I know this must be a problem for you, but I honestly thought the whole story was quite humorous  The instructor knows that this is a normal thing for young men, so if anything, she must have been flattered.
