My Pain-
In my hand.
A table saw kicked back a piece of ply wood (March,2006); Broke
my hand (4th metocarple...doctor words???!!)the bone next to my pinkie bone; you know...RING FINGER!
The pain goes up my arm to my neck, up my neck ehere my head meats my neck...
Anyway, then now, it is down my spine, mid back muscle spasmzzzzz...
EEK!
Any advice appreciated.
I have to do my practice at home because of long story (see my Welcome thread..POST 1 by me.)
So, I can't at Richard at Yoga Now in Keego, Harber...
Well, I suppose I could e-mail him too. I think they have a website.

Sorry to yell, my inner child wants to be healed. I need the confidence it takes to Practice my art and make a living. I think that is going to start with my physical health first.

You fractured the 4th metacarpal in your hand?
And that fracture from 10 months ago is referring pain up into your shoulder, neck, and down the spine?

And yet your post is entitled “I sit in a chair all day”.
I’m not seeing the connection?
If you would kindly clarify your question I would be delighted to weigh in.

Okay…I see how it is confusing to you. It is confusing to me too.
I work at a desk and I use my arm at the mouse and type all day.
I was thinking that the injury from my hand struck a nerve that could potentially go up to my neck and where ever…I thought maybe my posture??
I just went to the doctor and he said that the neck pain is most likley not
related to the hand injury.

When I do Yoga my hand/wrist hurts. I guess I will have to give up the downward dog.

My neck is sore and it shoots pain up to my ear?

I do not know what I need to make it feel better. I guess I do not know
how anyone can help.
The doctor has now given me a mild anti-depressant and says I may have fiber-nialgia? So, I guess I will try it out.

Is there any poses that help with neck pain, headache??

There are two potential ways to do the pose you refer to as Downward Dog.
The first is using a foam wedge under the hands. This reduces the angle demand on the wrists in the pose. The second is to use gripitz or small dumbells. In this way the wrists do not go into flexion or extension. I’d prefer you use the Gripitz. They can be googled on the web.

The neck is a different issue. Use organic, untoasted sesame oil rubbed on the neck twice daily, once in the morning and once just before bed. This will do two things, one it will soothe the nervous system and it will ease the muscles of the neck.

As far as asanas if you are looking for one thing I would recommend over others, Garudasana while sitting in Virasana, making sure the action is spreading the shoulder blades apart, away from the spine. This will help you to find the Serratus Anterior which can free up some of the muscle fibers in the neck.

Of course it’s best for the issues you are dealing with to be working with a teacher like Ruth Fisk over in East Lansing.

If you’ve got a yoga mat you can roll it up tightly, lay on the floor, and place the roll under the neck. Five minutes of dropping the body down and breathing into the neck. If the mat is too big you’ll have to find a smaller bolster. The idea is to preserve the natural curve of the servical spine (neck).
