I suck at it

Hi, i’m new in yoga.Like totaly new.But i’m verry into the spiritual (but not really religious) thing.I’ve done a chakra test on the internet, my root chakra sucks, so i looked on the internet and i found a way to keep your hands while meditating, so that i can open my root chakra, and i found a mantra, too. Then, when to learn how to do the lotus pose, i found out that i am not flexible at all.I need to really pull to get my left leg at my hip, and i cannot get the right leg to stay straight. It “blocks” at like a 90 degrees angle from the left leg. What can I do for my mobility? Can I meditate to open my root chakra in other pose than the lotus?

Later Edit: Can somewone give me a link to a good ebook for beginners? I kind of really like the chakra, and the energy flow, and the we-are-part-of-the-universe thing,I was actualy shoked when i found out what is actually yoga (shoked in a good way).I say yoga completely different, now it seems great. So somewone please help me.

Yes, but a regular yoga practice can help with being able to sit in lotus. Also, you may never be able to and that is OK too.

Don’t assume your mulhadara chakra is block because an internet test says so. I would suggest getting a book on yoga and perhaps the chakras. Pranayama, meditation and the asana practice all assist in opening the chakras.

Read, practice and learn. Take classes from a qualified teacher. This is something I highly suggest.

Best of luck on your journey!

I would really like to read something about chakras, can you, or somewone else recommend a good book(a free e-book, please)?
I really can’t get a yoga teacher, because i am in a very small city, and have very little money. That is why i prefer to learn the things, and apply what i have learned.
So can anywone help me, please?

in google

type this

“what are chakras?”

I know of no ebooks on chakras…

a kindly poster posted this link the other day . . .

the lotus or buddha posture should slowly be worked into (over time) or there is a possibility of doing damage to the knees.

Alternate legs in the Half Lotus posture and work to open and release the HIPS. Gradually things will loosen up.

A good free resource is yogajournal.com They have many great articles and podcasts as well as tutorials on the poses.

As far as free ebooks, I don’t know. Books I would recommend and then you can check to see if you can get them free:

Eastern Body Western Mind by Anodea Judith
The Sevenfold Journey, by Anodea Judith and Selene Vega
Balancing the Chakras by Maruti Seidman

kundaliniyoga.org is also a good resource for the Chakras.

There is loads of information on chakras to be found online and in book stores. Here are some links:

Regarding the lotus posture. It is not at all unsurprising that you cannot do the lotus posture when you just started doing Yoga. This is considered an advanced posture and many Yoga practioners struggle with it. You should not attempt such advanced postures just yet, rather you should work on general Yoga warm ups and beginner postures and routines, such as sun salutations.

Be careful because it sounds like you don’t have a Yoga teacher, and going by your forced attempts to do the lotus, you could seriously injure yourself. I would recommend getting a basic Yoga book or video with postures and instructions on how to do it. There are many Yoga teachers who post on this forum who can also recommend you a safe routine to practice.

Could you explain the root or source of your attachment to chakras please? This will be very helpful in advising you.

The reason why i am so interested in chakra is because they mean energy, and with a balance of energy it comes a balance of the mind.I am looking for balance, that’s what i seek in yoga.I like the meditaion thing, too.I like chakra because chakra means balance.I am/was a christian, but i started to fid out that they lyed to us.So now i want to find my way, so, again, find balance.
And chakras contol different things, like feelings, thinking, and so on, and i would like to be better on that things. I hope i explained correctly

Namaste Patrunjel,

You have said it alright. The Christian religion has lied to you. There is nothing to be gained from following this false religion. Hinduism will give you what you need, but it is not as simplistic as tweaking a certain chakra to bring it in balance. First of all you must understand your chakras will come into balance naturally as a result of your spiritual practice. In Hinduism there is no such thing as just isolating one part and working on it, because everything is connected, so you need a holistic approach.

You need to start a form of Yoga and follow it through from beginner, intermediate to advanced. As a result of your practice is your spiritual body will transform and your chakras will come into alignment, resulting in greater energy, better flow of energy and greater balance and control of the mind. You should begin by practicing a routine of asanas and pranayama, which you can find in books and videos on Yoga, or a teacher on this forum can instruct a routine to you.

dear p,
sd n others have rightly advised u to go slowly and carefully.
you must not hurry things up lest you hurt your self.
patanjali the lord of yoga advises that any posture wherein u are comfortable and can sit for long, is good enough, lotus will come sooner than later, with your gradual persistence.
as regards chakra,
it is not the chakras which need to be balanced but ida n pringla first. if they are balanced rest will be easier.
to balance the nadies you must start with nadi shodhan pranyam first.
regards,
rk
