Jesus said, “When you see your likeness, you rejoice. But when you see your images which came into being before you, and which neither die nor become manifest, how much you will have to bear!”

from the gospel of thomas (Nag Hammadi Library)/Lambdin translation

Isn’t this about samskaras and vasanas ? What do you think ?

The authenticity of this gospel was debated but apparently it is older than the canonized ones. (Not that I’d like to say there is anything wrong with the canonized ones)

Hi Hubert,

The first part about when you see your likeness refers rather for me to when one become aware that you are not just your body, when the first glimpses of your True Divine Self happens or when the veil of ignorance is drawn back.

On the second part, I agree, it can refer to the unmanifest causes and the seeds of the past which still needs to manifest - i.e. samskaras and vasanas.

Read the book Jesus lived in India and it gives a whole new understanding of His words.
