Infertility

Namaste, Please send suggestions for yoga postures that might help infertility students. Many thanks. V

My main suggestion is to help them learn to more deeply relax, thus focus Ayurvedically on balancing vata and restoring the immune system with strengthening kapha. Ultimately this practice would be elevated to evolve the feeling of love to themselves and their husbands. To do this would be giving a lot of emphasis on sustaining the wave (Ujjaye) pranayama during asanas, gentle poses done in harmony with the wave, repetitive sequences of poses (vinyasa style), ending with holding poses especially bridge, shoulderstand of a mild to moderate difficulty. Long relaxation with the use of yoga nidra (see www.nondual.com for tapes) and meditation seated again using wave breath as foundation. The wave motions should be taught to extend both lower and higher throughout the torso. This should be done with an emphasize on extending downward to a feeling of relaxation in the ovaries, pelvis and genitals. Next level would be to invite their husbands to class and participate with them in same procedure gradually progressing to loving partner poses as described by Shar Lee and Dawn Mahowald in their book Doubles Yoga. For a graduate level of practice I would encourage them to see the Yoga Journal’s Living Arts produced video Secrets of Sacred Sex.
