Information for Pattabhi Jois Institute

Dear fellow yogis,

My friend and I would like to go the Pattabhi Jois Institute at the beginning of November (2011) but due to lack of holidays from work we can only go for 2.5 weeks. Can anyone tell me if:-

a) will the school be open then?
b) can we go for that period of time or do we have to stay a minimum of one month?
c) the cost to attend?
d) i know i have to apply 2 months in advance (already done) but if I don’t get accepted can anyone please suggest where we can go in Mysore to get some excellent teaching to develop our ashtanga practice. We are both qualified (200HR) teachers and we want to improve and further our own practice.

Any advice/information anyone can post around this would be greatly appreciated.

Namaste,

Sakshi

lovely teacher…very good English…can do any length stay…cheaper than other…nice part of the city(easy walking distance of all markets etc)…I think he still has the Kirtan/devotional singing a couple times a month which is fun…very friendly students and the classes MUCH smaller(5-20) than other so you get plenty of attention and adjustment that you cannot get in a class over 50+…he will also invite students to various Hindu ceremonies/prayers which is interesting.

Check out the Mysore Mandala also…I do not know the teacher who is there now…
and
http://www.sheshadri.com/ I have not been to his new place but he is a fun teacher…he does drift from the traditional primary series and can get quite playful…he was doing one handed handstands and spining on his head in one class.

I think all of these teachers will take you for any length of time…no advance booking needed, friendly, relaxed and cheaper than Jois

November is a nice time to visit Mysore.

Have a great time!!! be sure to take a walk up Chumundi hill http://www.inmysore.com/chamundi-hills a nice walk up…visit the temple then take the bus back down into town and to to RRR for a big lunch.

Be sure to visit http://www.rashinkar.com/ to have a duvet cover made from a sari.

Have fun

Some more links for you…

just for fun-

Sheshadri did some of these mad adjustments with me…fun…but be sure to speak out if you feel he is over doing it!!

many happy hours here.

There are many tailors in Mysore and yogi seem to use Rashankars (?sp) many, many hours are spent working through the vast array of saris and having bed cover sets made to send home…this tailor also has a very reliable postage service…all my packages arrived in good time and complete.

There is/was a lady called Sandhya(?sp) not too far from stalam8 offering yogi lunch at her home every day…sooo good, always some raw foods, cheap yuumy and CLEAN…ask other yogis…

Thank you very much for your excellent information.
