Inspirations Gained through Practice

Hi Everyone,

I tend to get great inspirations when I do my practice and I thought we could share with each other some of the more profound ones. I had one tonight but it was not one that was not given to me before. I think it came from someone on this board recently and it is along the lines of; “Yoga is not about perfection, that is why it is called a practice”. I was reminded of this tonight when I was doing a practice concentrating on hip openers and realized my hips were not cooperating as well as I would have liked. So what are some other inspirations you guys have gained during your practice?

I learned that life doesn’t have to be a competition. Yoga isn’t a competition at all (although some make it out to be). You aren’t necessarily good at yoga if you can do advanced asanas.

Yoga is just so personalized and you can do what feels right for your own body at your own pace. It’s just such a different mentality from other “workouts” even if you focus solely on the physical aspect of yoga. I have workout DVDs collecting dust on my shelf now because I just can’t stand their “Push! Push! Push!” mentality.

Life can be such a “rat race” but with yoga I have found that it doesn’t have to be.

When I practice yoga, into it for a few minutes or so, I feel “energy” flowing (I’ll explain next). When I breathe out, the “energy” flows down to below, and when breathe in, it comes up my spine. And a few rounds of that. my mind goes super sharp and crystal clear, like into a deep meditation state. The physical practice definitely helps bring me into meditation, and more quickly than I sit there meditate. (apologize this is not some inspirations, but just personal experience).
