I’m new to yoga and I was doing a particular sequence for about six weeks. I switched to a different sequence (simple sequences/poses I get out of health magazines) and it just doesnt feel right, is that silly? From a spiritual aspect, I just don’t get the right vibe from this sequence. I felt a whole lot better with the previous sequence I was doing before. I dont know if this is how other people have felt too.
There are, of course, several possibilities Melisah.
The first is that you are right on target and feeling something very deep with relative to the asana practice you are and were doing. Call this intuition, inner teacher, innate wisdom, it matters not what it’s called.
The second possibility is that you have a resistance to something in the practice (that second sequence) in the same way many of us would likely “avoid” poses that we didn’t “like” (or only do poses which are challenging).
The beauty of yoga is that you not only have access to the Masters who’ve studied before you over the millennia (teachers, lineage, books) but you are also a petri dish in which you will conduct your own experiment for your own result in your own living.
Considering the source of your sequencing it is possible those offerings are being written up by a journalist with little or no yoga teaching experience. Who knows. Many times such periodicals throw some poses together and think it’s harmless placing one thing after the other in any old way. Image the magazine being laid out in such a way
Either choice; going back to the first sequence, or continuing the second may be okay. Neither will be as good as a well trained teacher:-)
Interesting…I feel that way about some yoga classes I went to in the past! Or even the particular yoga style! So I do not believe its silly at all that you felt that way about the sequence!! I bet the more you study yoga, you’ll find another sequence you like!
