there are accounts of people worshipping Kundalini as a goddess or diety – that leaves me wondering wether you treat K as a sentient entity or an inanimate type of body engery?-- as K seems once aroused does seem to have a definite agenda of its own

Of course She is a sentient being, in fact She is the Being. She is the primary force from which the rest of forces as manifest universe spring. She is the dynamic aspect of consciousness, She is the sonic Brahman or Shabda Brahman, She is the Word or Logos, She is the feminine and creative aspect of God. She, at the time of creation is issued from the Shiva Bindu, the point from which universe springs and into which it collapses when manifestation ceases, and through her spiral course, creates the countless worlds wherein countless individual beings made of matter, energy and mind live and serve as vehicles for manifestation and awakening of the same Shiva/Shakti consciousness that sleeps in the rock and awakes in the human.
The issue is that through the agency of Maya Shakti, the veiling or obscuring power of consciousness, by its own will, god/brahman/consciousness itself gets constrained into myriads of smaller structures, from particles to mammals to galaxies, and thus it looks to us to have one Kundalini and one Bindu for each creature. The unique, almighty, all knowing Brahman, splits/manifests into/as multiple, miserable, ignorant beings. The one becomes many. A game that we as God love to play, a cosmic play, whose name is Lila.
The fact that we perceive Her as a blind or material force does not mean that She is so, it is just the impurity or darkness of the structure in which we as unlimited consciousness dwell what distorts and obscures our experience. In fact, the road of Tantra and Yoga consists in clearing away all impurities so that we finally realize who we are, our true Shiva/Shakti nature, freeing ourselves from the chain of rebirths that attaches us to the structures mentioned before. Through tantric and yogic practices, what happened at a cosmic level is reverted at a microcosmic level (our physical and subtle bodies), the same Shiva consciousness that remains ignorant in other structures, is enlightened and united with a Kundalini who has travelled and pierced through Sushumna nadi, in “our” Bindu, bringing the cosmic game to an end for the practicioner.
