Does anyone else’s skin start to itch when doing yoga? Mine does when I do the sun salutation, half moon, downward facing dog, the plank, & others like them. Is it because I’m stretching the skin? Does this ever go away? I know I’ve asked 4 dumb questions in the past day but I’m curious is all to what others think.
The skin is the termination of the nervous system. Typically that which manifests on the skin originates from an agitation in the nerves. Since I cannot see your practice and you’ve not described it in detail it is impossible to say more with any degree of accuracy.

Hi,
Actually I have the same problem. Not all the time, but some days my skin itches, exactly as you said, it feels like it is “stretching”, which is weird.
If you find out more let me know.
Amethy…,
Itching can be caused by factors like
- Neurologically, agitations of nerves, as said by Gordon.
- Psychologically, nervousness, and thought process involving lack of direction and what to do…
- And at the skin level, deficient toxins release through perspiration due to inadequate opening of pores of skin.
I believe that if the underlying cause is at the level of skin only, itching should disappear with regular practice of Yoga styles that encourage perspiration, not necessarily Hot Yoga or Bikram Yoga, earliest within 2 or 6 weeks and latest 3 months or so.
