Jala Neti: Supersaturated Water?

Hi, I have a quick question on how much salt and bicarbonate of soda is too much.

I use half a litre o0f water, with three pea sized ballsof salt (maybe slightly larger) I also use the same amount of bicarbonate of soda, this supersaturates the water leave just a tiny amount of salt undissolved.

Is that too much salt and Bicorbonate? How much is too much?

Thanks

I only used salt, but too much salt will be noticed when it stings/burns your nose inside.

You should only use 0.9% salt solution and use boiled water.

…and watch out for brain eating amoebas…meningoencenphalitis…always boiled water…

But what would happen if I used a lot of salt and bicarb in the water? Is it dangerous?

Why exactly are you using bicarbonate of soda?

I use Morton kosher salt (no silica added) and Arm & Hammer baking soda blend; 2/3 salt to 1/3 baking soda, I mix up large dry batches ahead of time adding this to normal lukewarm tap water three times a day (morning, noon, before bed). I prefer hypertonic mixtures i.e. just before severe burning sensation would occur, its proven effective at drawing more fluids and mucus out and has a noticeable increased healing effect. Based on 26 years of personal trial and error, it works for my condition. Suggestion is to find a comfortable mixture than experiment between isotonic/hypertonic little by little see what works for you. FYI ocean water seems to be the same hypertonic solution I use.

It raises the PH of the water and makes it more antibacterial (or so I hear).

So basically what you guys are saying is that if it doesn’t burn, it’s not too much. Right?

How much salt (in grams) do you think I should add to half a liter of water to get a 1% salt solution?

Or do you think I should ask this on a maths forum?

There is on google how much. Just do a search.

Hi Folks,

Mix it to taste, with sea salt or kosher. It should taste like seawater
Temperature should be body temp.

good luck
