hi, can you give me any information in regards to how to help a recovering drug addict through yoga? What special care is needed and what are some good asanas for them? Thankyou, Jo
welcome Jo,
being a newbie you brought a very big challenge to the table and the area you talk about I know a little something about, I have had to deal with it in my family. part of it depends on how much the person recovering wants to explore. One of the first things I would work towards would be a detoxifying of the body. Read this article and there are links at the bottom of the page http://www.healthandyoga.com/html/clean.html
the nose, the teeth, the tounge and the skin are fairly simple cleansing techniques and are not too hard on a first timer, the other two are a little more intrusive. But even if he/she only does the four I mentioned, it will help. LOTS of water and fruits, and possibly looking into fasting on just juice, fresh made within the hour is best. You want to get that stuff flushed out of the system. Also could drink stuff like Yogi tea on an empty stomach http://www.yogitea.com/Organic-Tea/Tea.asp?Tea_ID=HF05
first thing in the morning and before going to bed 3 or more hours after last meal.
I also would ask them to write down 3 questions and have them read and ponder every night. What do you want, how bad do you want it, and what are you willing to do to get it.
maybe some of the experts can chime in and talk about specific asanas
Those are just my thoughts and opinions, I hope there is something helpful there and I wish the best while helping this person through this difficult process but that person should be congratulated on starting
enjoy the journey,
seeker
thankyou for the information, very helpful. Some of the cleansing techniques in the article may be a bit too much for the person, but the juice and water will be a good start.
Jo
and that is the reason for the 3 questions.
what do you want
how bad do you want it
and what are you willing to do to get it
