Just a little hello!

Hi forum!

My name is Whitney. I am new to practicing yoga. I started about 3 weeks ago- and have been ATTEMPTING to do it every day. Ive missed a few here or there- but I am still at it.

I started Yoga to help my anxiety- and found my entire body afterwards felt better than it ever had. I have ONLY done at home yoga practices.

So far- I bought the Am/PM yoga video and have been doing the 20 minute AM program in the morning and the 20 min PM program at night.

I went online and bought a few more DVDs- Yoga for Beginners, Yoga for Inflexible people, and Yoga for Abs. I also have puirchased a few books and am trying to read up as much as I can.

I am signed up for a class the 28th- and I am looking forward to that.

Anyways, quick intro about me:

I am a 20 year old college student majoring in Government- and hoping to pursue a law career. I am turning 21 Sept. 5th. I have a boyfriend of 3 years, and 5 chinchillas

Its really nice to meet everyone! I am here to learn- and find out more about yoga and living a better- and healthy- life. (Eating healthy is my weakness. I don’t even know where to begin with that!!)

Does anyone have any good advice for a first time yoga girl?!?!

Hello Whitney,
Welcome to YogaForums. I began my Yoga practice when I was college student in my 20s too. It is an ideal time (age) for women to go deeper into practice, especially when you have a higher level of self awareness, e.g., noticing the benefits in your mind and body even though your practice is very new.
My advice to you is to discover YOUR yoga. Discover the Yoga that makes your heart sing and brings more joy into your life. Although the door for many of us has been the physical postures (asana), know that this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Kind wishes,

Hello Whitney

Welcome to Yoga Forum!

Heya Whiteney, welcome to the forums. Don’t worry about eating right, right off the bat. I think that over time you will begin to notice that from your yoga practice, if you truly want to eat right, try not to force it,becuase you will fail that way, but let it come naturally and through time you will find that you may or may not want to eat healthier, depending on how you eat, makes you feel, and the more you practice yoga over time, the more you become aware of the feelings you have towards the foods you eat. I have AM and PM yoga too. I like to do OM Yoga though and have a hard time waking up in the morning. I’m really a night person hehe and by then I’ve forgotten that there is a PM yoga as well, so I don’t use the video very much, but it is a really nice video.
