Just wondering

I was just outside walking, ok in my case at the moment limping, and it was a bit windy and I like windy and this, for some reason, brought me to this thought.

Would it be possible for a guy pushing 50, with the all the standard adult responsibilities (family, career ? mind you a career that is not conducive to good health) who is coming to the end (hopefully) of what I can only describe as a year and 7 months of recovery from various injuries, who is now more than a bit overweight and rather inflexible and might as well throw in currently recovering from a torn meniscus and waiting for the rigid knee brace, to actually get in shape (and/or benefit from) using yoga or for that matter even train it correctly.

Yes that is possible.

Thank You and now the rest is up to me

As long as you are still breathing, it is possible to “do” yoga. You may want to put some effort in finding the right class. Starting off slow maybe best for you; remember the tortoise and the hare! Best wishes.

I remember reading an article about a man who’s legs are completely unuseable, and his upper body is distorted, due to a degenerative disease he’s had since birth. there were photos of how he adapted many yoga positions to fit his particular situation. I wish I could recall where I read it. It really pushed home for me that yoga is for everyone, we just have to be patient with our bodies and let go of expectations, and let the yoga move our bodies.

…and, like me, you may discover the many other side effects of practicing yoga.

Thank You

I was surprised to find a school 15 minutes from my house that teaches Yoga, not sure what type, and Yin Yoga.

As soon as the doctor tells me I am good to go I will go start classes. I will take the basic class first and if I like that I will try the Yin Yoga class and see where it goes from there.

The teacher is a Registered Yoga Alliance teacher and has studied with David Swenson, Shiva Rea, Todd Norian, Seane Corn and Suzie Hurley. However I am not exactly sure what all that means

This is SO useful. I’ve saved it on my computer so i can return to it whenever I need to. Thanks!

Yulaw,
So glad to hear it.
You must be very excited. Please do let us know how it goes, I am curious about the Yin Yoga as I’ve been hearing things about it too.

I will let you know

However at this point it does not look like it will happen before fall. I just got my rigid knee brace (FINALLY) after much discussion between insurance company and doctor and per my doc this does not mean I can go out and start doing things like I use to. I need to give the knee some (more) time to heal.

But when he does say ok I am there. However I am going to start with level 1 first to get the basics. What I did years ago was Power Yoga and I do not think that translates to ?I know what I am doing? if for no other reason than it was years ago. But after I finish the level 1 class I will sign up for the Yin Yoga class.

Before, I don’t believe in yoga, but as the time goes by, I’ve met people doing yoga, and they testified that it was true. As my curiosity, I’d tried to read a yoga book - but I didn’t do the same thing. And I discovered that it is true. Showing your chakra - weird!
