Knee problems...can you help?

Namaste,

Whilst in Kerala doing my Kalarippayatt training, I strained my knees it seems and since I am back in UK, I have problems. Sometimes are sharp shooting pain on the sides, sometimes it feels like something is “loose” in my knee, and I have to be careful when squatting/kneeing down). I am surprised as in the past I never had problems with my knees. Can anyone suggest yogic asans or exercises to heal/strengthen knees? And possibly what 's wrong?

Thanks in advance

Phildas

Have you run at all recently??? I ask because I am a runner and I had this problem just recently. But it sounds like IT Band issues or Iliotibial Band Syndrome which is the band of fiber that runs from your hip to your knees. Now the problem is not in your knee with the IT Band its actually your hips. For this I love Half Pigeon. I also believe triangle will do great for this as well. That is of course you actually Have IT band issues.
Here it the quick description of IT Band and the issue of it!! Hope this helps!

Have you tried a knee support sock? My husband uses one when he plays squash and swears by it!

After 6 months 3 doctors 3 sets of x-rays, 2 draining the knee sessions and 1 MRI they finally figured out what was wrong with my knee.

My best advice is don’t mess around with the knee. Go see an orthopedic doc, get an MRI and find out what is going on before you make it worse

recover the range of motion in the joint, and flush it with nutrition. Youtube intuflow beginner and do the program or skip ahead and do the knees portion. Do everyday and your knee will be fully functional again.

I agree with Yulaw, go to see an specialist as soon as you can, however you might end up in a similar path. I saw 5 doctors and they all gave me different reasons for my knee problems but none of them was convincing though the physiotherapy did help a bit. Last week I had a 1 week workshop with Wim Hof, The Iceman. He told me about the benefit of the cold water immersions on the nervous and circulatory system and that it was extremely beneficial for the joints. After that week I do feel a bit of improvement but not fully recovered yet. What I’m doing now is taking a hot shower and then a very cold shower pointing mainly at my knees and it seems like it does help. Anyway in the physiotherapy I remember they did similar things so it is definitively worth trying. I wrote a bit about him in my blog path2yoga.blogspot.com/2010/05/meeting-real-yogi-iceman.html Good luck
