I’m experiencing knee pain, but not in the joint. Rather in the flesh surrounding and in front of the knee cap. But only when I kneel on it. I guess I’ll just follow the “if it hurts, don’t do it” advice. Has anyone had this or am I just a nreak of fature?
Did this start recently, or has it always been this way?
You know, I’ve seen some really good therapy and anatomy info shared on this forum, but the best stuff always starts with something akin to a ‘patient history’. There really are trained folks that read and respond here, and as such they like to know whether or not they’re giving applicable or appropriate advice. They usually ask for stuff like gender, age, weight, injuries, movement habits, etc.
So, I’ll start you off.
By the way, welcome to the forums!
it is best to consult with doctor
Until the trained folks respond I’ll dig in to this.
Please consider Techne’s directives. In order to provide anything resembling sound assistance we need a verbal picture of you. Sixteen or 60 please? Active or video gamer? Fast food or vegan? Ashtanga practice or Viniyoga?
Second, most students need a bit of educating regarding the difference between pain and discomfort. Again, if you’ve been sitting on your duff for a decade and you went to one yoga class I’d expect you to be VERY discomfortable.
Third, there should never be sharp pain in a joint, never, period. Since you do not have sharp pain in the joint there’s a bit of an exhalation on this end of the connection…ahhhh.
If it hurts when kneeling try two mats or a folded blanket under the patellar ligament in front of the knee cap. I’d also be curious if it is ANY kneeling or particular poses. Again, more from you equals more from me.
Finally this bit about doctors. And I want to be perfectly clear about this. If an M.D. fits YOUR health care paradigm then by all means go see one with all my blessings. However, these days some people prefer a holistic approach to healing and that is very difficult to find in an M.D. Therefore the person you consult should be the health care practitioner of YOUR choosing. If it’s M.D. or D.C. or D.O. or shaman…I don’t care. It has to work for you. After all, this is a yoga board, not webmd.
