Knees Popping & Warm/Cold Sensation

Hi,

I hope you can give me some guidance as to what to do with this issue…

About 4 days ago, I was doing some stretching and I had the misguided idea to do them in an unusual way… Basically, a wide-legged forward bend: yogajournal.com/poses/693 (also attached here - 1st attachment)

I let my legs go as far out as I could - though my torso and hands were much further out than that picture, more like this:

The next day, my knees started cracking/popping (that sound when you crack your knuckles) and they feel warm/cold/“coldwarm” (coldwarm is weird, it is like that feeling when it is so cold you stop noticing your body is cold, then you get inside and you feel the difference), and sometimes when I’m walking I feel the sensation like they have air in them - it feels like I have to crack them or they won’t operate fully/I’ll feel uncomfortable. They also feel somewhat tender.

I’m 20 years old and male if it’s of any relevance.

This is really concerning - what can I do to get my knees back to normal?

Thank you.

Sounds like you’ve hyper-extended the leg at the knee and maybe you are prone to doing this, if you are, then you could try flexing the knees slightly/keeping them soft in fwd bends to avoid this happening again. This also applies to Trikonasana, Parsvottananasana and Ardha Chandrasana

If you avoid fwd bends for a a week or two you may escape without any real damage.
