Kombucha, anyone?

Hello all, as I sit sipping away at some delicious Kombucha, I thought I’d ask, have you tried Kombucha? Has it had any effect on your body? If you’ve never heard of the stuff, google it and you’ll find all sorts of info. Basically it’s a fermented tea, often times it’s flavoured, it’s supposed to be a detoxifying tonic and very beneficial for your body.

Though I do enjoy the crispness and tartness of Kombucha, I personally haven’t felt any difference physically since I’ve started drinking it. I wish I did, because I’ve read all sorts of things saying how amazing this stuff makes you feel, but I honestly drink it because I really like tart things and this satisfies my thirst for acidity.

Let me know if you’ve tried it, do you like it? Did you wake up the next day feeling amazing, or did you wake up the next day feeling pretty much the same? Have you tried drinking it before practicing, as a little energy booster?

I am interested in hearing your thoughts and impressions.

I drink Kombucha as a medicine on occasion. It made all the difference in the world for me while living in Hawaii. I’d get extreme stomach and skin issues while there and Kombucha was a life and sanity saver.

I remember my grand mom was growing some sort of huge mushroom in the big bottle of water for years and it thought to be healthy to drink that water. It tasted just like kombucha in the supermarket, not that acidy though. I can’t take combucha 'cose acid makes me sick, but I would love to have that staff my grand use to grow.
It is very simple to take care of and it grows layers very fast… I’ll try to search online now and will let you know if I found anything similar

Here it is…tea mushroom

I have just got one on the ebay, some guy from Berkly is selling the culture - if it works I can make endless combucha !!! Thank you for reminding me about this!

David- very interesting! I wonder what were the underlying issues in Hawaii that your body was experiencing. Was it food related, or just the general environment that was not agreeable for your body?

CityMonk- Mushroom tea IS Kombucha! It’s just a different name for the same thing. At the bottom of the article you sent me, someone comments to say that too. Kumbucha can vary in flavour, just like any fermented beverages- wine, beer, etc. I’ve had Kombucha that tastes like champagne and peaches, I’ve had Kombucha that tastes like vinegar. It really depends on the fermentation process.

That’s pretty cool that your Grandma was doing the Kombucha thing back before it started to become more trendy. Lucky you!!

Mostly environmental. The biggest issues were acidic drinking water and volcanic smog. At least, those are issues I was aware of. I was on the Big Island which can be pretty harsh in a variety of ways.

That’s very interesting… I’ve never been to Hawaii but always wanted to go. Very cool that Kombucha was your medicine in this situation. That says a lot about the tonic!

(I wonder if they drink Kombucha in Iceland…?)

I had a Kombucha mushroom for quite some time about 20 years ago, but when I moved to a new home, my culture grew mold :frowning:
I loved drinking the tea, it gave me a little tingle when I’d drink it, and I felt great. I have always had stomach issues (probably food sensitivity related, but that’s a whole other kettle of fish) and the Kombucha made my stomach feel great. I’d have a glass each morning.
I wish I could find some again - I tried two different ones from the supermarket, but they were carbonated (Horrible drinks!). Why do they go and ruin it by adding carbonated water… ugh.
