I’m thinking about trying this form of yoga. I was given a Kundalini yoga book for my Christmas but just got round to reading it a few days ago. I did some of the basic moves and I felt their benefits immediately.
Any kundalini practitioners on here? I would love to hear from you
Which book is it?
Do you have a good solid foundation in the Hatha yoga?
It’s Maya Fiennes new book.
I have been practicing yoga on and off for a number of years, so have tried many different styles so i would say i have good basic knowledge of hatha yoga.
Is this important before beginning kundalini?
Ok.
As I understand it these exercises, whatever they may be, are simply laying the firm foundation to ennable safe/harmonious rousing and smooth transit. Hence all the twisting in the seat, shruggin, churning, neck rolls and om japa.
Yes I would say it is important to have established mastery of at least one good seat:
Sukhasana, svastika, sidda, lotus.
I would also say that it is important to have good working knowledge and muscular control (mastery) of the at the very very least the three main bandha/locks/seals.
I would also say that it is very important to have learned and mastered the various
(kumbhakas/pots/chalices/retentions) and breath control in general.
I would also say that it is very important to be on solid mental ground without any super major mental problems, patterns, complusive behavior patterns and the like.
I would also say that it is important to be realatively free of any major diseases…
I like kundalini too - I have that book.
I find the breathing very hard, though. Breath of Fire is the hardest thing for me in yoga. I feel like I am drowning!
I’m not experienced enough to say anything else about it, but I used to have a kundalini teacher and after every class, I would feel incredible. I would think I couldn’t do a certain asana and then she would get me to visualise an energy and I could suddenly do it. Do you find that?
Do you have a teacher or just use the book? She teaches it on Body In Balance TV too, if you don’t mind practicing that way.
