Kurmasana

Hi

I would like some advise on how to get into kurmasana.
I try to lean forward and slide my arms under the legs (bent initially), and then try to lean further and try to straighten my legs.
The problem I face is when I try to stretch my arms outwards, I start
feeling pain in the arms and I give up. Can someone explain the
step by step technique for this pose and the arm movement to get into this pose. and what is the correct way to breathe in this posture.

are there some more basic postures/exercises for shoulder that can help to get into this asana better?

Thanks

there is actually an article on yogajournal.com on this posture today! I was just there checking it out. Maybe that would be of some help.

I think this link should take you there. It’s quite lengthy and explains the postures you must first accomplish before being able to properly without injury get into the tortoise posture.

Hope this helps

Thanks very much jessiroo for your response and the link. Yes it seems very detailed and provides a lead up to the final pose.
I will try it out and see it can help my problem.
Other peoples experience with this asana would be greatly appreciated as well.
