Letting Go

I have a fear of letting go.

In my meditation practice, particularly when it’s not very formal, such as laying on the sofa, I relax all my muscles, I gaze at one spot, focus on my breath, and let go. After 5 mins or so I seem to just drift right into a dream state. It feels comfortable to let go at this point, but I have this fear that if I do completely let go, I will die. When I have this feeling I pull myself back to reality and start the process over.

I’m curious to hear the thoughts of others.

You need to realise that we die each night however we are not conscious of it.

As you said your entering the dream state consciously, just go with the flow i know its a strange feeling. Go with that strange feeling it will get stronger and stronger and before you know it youl be out. Just go with tha flow.

It is definitely a strange feeling  I would equate it to being pulled away to some far off place. I appreciate the advice, and I will try to get used to it!

What you describe seems more ?yoga nidra? than ?meditation?; the experience ?fear? may arise from misidentification of oneself as the finite body/mind, that which is born shall die, a scary illusion. Through deeper self-inquiry you may begin to recognize and cast away such illusions, revealing you?re not the body/mind but the infinite which lies beyond, that with no beginning, no end, an awareness of one?s true inner nature.

1+ Amazing

How do meditation and yoga nidra differ?

What’s happening to me is that after relaxing I am able to fall asleep but retain consciousness from a waking state all the way into the dream.

Yes it seems to me you’re practicing yoga nidra (sleep) a skillful technique to build awareness in various levels of the mind, Swami Rama was a modern day yogi who set up shop in my home state (Honesdale, Pennsylvania), an expert who made himself available for clinical testing of his abilities of awareness in all levels of the mind and control of involuntary functions, for what it’s worth?

So, it sounds like, yoga nidra conscious sleep is different than meditation conscious sleep?
