Light on Yoga by B K S Iyengar

just received this book a few days ago from a friend that came back from india. is it good? never practiced by his theory, don’t know anything about him. help me out people.

yes it is good

It’s the book all my yoga instructors rave about. I just bought it, and I feel like it answers most of my questions. And it’s very detailed on postures - from beginner to advanced.

Tel Aviv huh? Welcome!

As it relates to asana, BKS Iyengar is a master. He has refined the system of posture in an astounding way and I admire his commitment and dedication to the practice.

Whether it is “good” or not can only be determined by the individual doing it. Is it good FOR YOU? That is the only question we are really cultivating in Yoga.

I don’t believe, for me, it could be the only book I’d have. There are many others which today I find more helpful in my personal practice. But again, that is for me. As a reference tool it is invaluable. It is not however a manual for beginners.

If my memory not fail me he’s the first man to make use wall ;rope & pop etc to assist beginner to gradually advance in thier poses and peoples with problem in their body to restore their health.

It’s nice to have varieties to widen the scope in yoga.

Its a great book.

I have been blessed by it’s use-it is my main source book-though I get all the help I can. Namaste

Hey Inner Athlete love your posts. Can you share which books you would recommend?
Cheers

I tend to steer away from books that outline asana.
However “Yoga: the path to holistic health”, and “Light on Yoga”, both are fine books to have in one’s library. I prefer the use of the latter as a reference to supplement working directly with a teacher.

The Science of Yoga is a very sound, heady discourse on the sutras.
Any of the works of Sri Aurobindo - though I’d start with “Looking Within” or one of the other smaller books as it’s a full meal to digest.

I also love the book my teacher authored “Fire of Love: for students of life, for teachers of yoga”.

Thanks! Will investigate further. I wish I lived in Seattle, I would visit your classes.

Very kind.

Actually I’m going to be shifting my teaching such that I’ll be traveling more to share the Yoga. Some of that travel will be international, as the need arises.

Back in the day, they used to say Clapton is God. Nowadays, I think he’s really B.K.S. Iyengar.

(he, he – Clapton is Mr. Iyengar? : )

One should always preview one’s posts. Certainly what I said is not what I meant. What I meant was, God is not Clapton, he’s B.K.S. Iyengar.

That’s exciting. Is there a chance that you might come to Australia? I’m over in Perth WA.

ofc reading about is a good thing but according to my point of view you need also a yoga trainer.

although as B K S Iyengar said “a good book is better than a bad teacher”

I want to download a soft copy of this book…
