List of basic yoga poses?

a question that comes to all yoga beginner’s minds i think, what are some yoga beginner poses?

i wanna get into it. but when i’ve searched google, i usually come across like 30 poses, majority of which i feel aren’t meant for beginners. so i was hoping i’d ask a community full of enthusiasts.

Downward dog!!! Its all over the beginner clips on youtube. You’ll do it so much you’ll get sick of it, lol. Then, maybe cobra pose and half-sun salutation …

Clyde,
There are many online sites for beginners. Here is one www.doyogawithme.com

It is said by Swami Sivananda, three asanas alone will keep the body in perfect health - Sirsasana ( The Headstand ), Sarvangasana ( The Shoulderstand ), and Paschimottanasana ( The Forward Bend ).

i would just approach each of them consciously and look what you can do right now and which ones might be saved for later

I do not agree with the above…there is a great deal missing (twists, streches for front of body)!!!

Just doing those few asanas without any other changes to life style, exercise regimen, diet etc will have no impact on health at all…except maybe causing some damage to your neck and back if doing the asanas incorrectly.
No asanas are magic medicine…you need more.

Headstand and Shoulderstand are not that basic and you need a properly qualified teacher to teach you do do them appropriately, safely and effectively.

The best way to learn some basic asanas to stretch the major muscle groups and improve your flexibility, strength, balance and posture is to GO TO A PROPERLY QUALIFIED TEACHER and LEARN from him/her.
