Looking for advice on teacher training in Indi

Hi everyone,

I’m sure this is a very popular topic and this question has been asked many times so I hope you don’t mind seeing this again!

I have been practising yoga (mostly hatha) for a few years now and I am ready to take the next stage and am incredbily keen and determined to become a yoga teacher and I really want to study in India.

I have heard that the Bihar School in Munger is the best place to go to and attend their 4month yoga sudies course. Has anyone taken this course and if so would this be the best course to take?

I understand that this will be ashram living which I am very happy to do but am wondering what other courses there are out there before I commit to anything. Can anyone tell me what the assessment process is like? Am I guaranteed a place once I apply and pay the fees. I’d love to hear from anyone who has experience of living/studying at the Bihar Munger ashram and what you though of it

I am Indian by origin but have been born and bred in the UK and I really want to seek a highly respectable school which will give me certification so that I can teach in the UK. Ideally no more than 6 months.

I have looked at the Sivananda yoga courses but I feel that I will need more than a month to study and also I have not really practiced that style of yoga.

Any advice is greatly appreciated so thank you very much in advance for your help

Om shanti

Kind regards,

SheelP

You ask a very specific question which I can not answer based on the way you’ve constructed the question. The questions, it seems, should be directed to the Bihar school itself.

I am aware that in the UK the British Wheel “manages” most of the yoga teaching. I presume one wanting to teach there, under their “umbrella” would ask them what they require.

If there are some general questions about teacher training I would be delighted to respond to those.

Hello sheelp,
the Bihar school has a school in london the "satyananda centre " you could check them out to give you a flavour and ask questions. They also have a retreat centre in wales.
Can you not ask your teachers ? What they think or for some advice.
The British wheel of yoga promotes itself as the "governing body for yoga in the Uk ", but this is to do with the sports council or some everchanging goverment quango, as last time I had a look yoga is not a sport, not sure how relevant this title is.The british wheel do run teacher training courses ,but you are after something in India.
The Bihar school is a respected school ,and probably is recognised by the british wheel you could check, but I dont think you need to worry it.
there are threads on this forum about teacher training in India check those out for opinions
Om Shanti
