Lookn to start yoga

I am looking to start doing yoga as soon as i can. But have no idea where to begin or who to trust before i start spendin all kinds of $$. what type of yoga is the best for a beginner?

Try some “beginner” classes at yoga studios in your area. Many usually have good deals for beginnners where you can try a variety of classes over a week or two week or sometimes even month period for a low fee. Try different classes and different teachers to see what may be right for you. I would recommend a hatha style or maybe slow vinyasa style class for a beginner to get an idea of what a class is about without being intimidated. I would say stay away from hot yoga or Bikram yoga to start until you develop a tolerance for heat and feel comfortable and safe practicing in a heated environment. Maybe if you clarify where you are located some can make recommendations of places in your area to try?

The starting begins with clarifying the intention.
Are you looking to add to your current living or balance your current living?
If you are looking to develop a practice that is like your living, then find one that is akin to that. If you are a fiery person, always going, running, scheduling, frantic AND you want more of that, stoking your current flame, then seek that practice. However I believe this ultimately leads to burn out.

If you are looking for a balancing practice then once you identify your living find a practice that counters that. If you are fiery, find a calming practice, If you are a sloth find something that gets you going. While everyone has the right to find their own path and determine what is FOR them, a balanced practice appears to lead to a broader definition of well being over time.

From there I suggest identifying the three closest studios that offer the practice from the above criteria. Call each and ask four or five questions about their style, their training, their philosophy, their costs. Pick the one that resonates with you and go.

Once there, commit to taking 8-10 class with three or four different teachers. After each class spend five minutes of undisturbed quiet time to feel the residue of the practice left in your body. Note it and move on. From that you will likely find the right place for you to be. If something feels icky energetically or it appears that the studio does not have teachers that live what they teach, then of course do not stay to meet the 8-10 class commitment mentioned above.

Hope this helps.
